Meeting: The first club monthly meeting of 2011 takes place on Thursday in the clubhouse, starting at 8pm. The January juvenile club meeting is in the clubhouse tonight (Tuesday) at 7.30.
Training courses: The Club Maith Monaghan Club Officer Training will be held in St Macartan’s College, Monaghan this Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 9am to 12noon. All club officers are urged to attend this training, including those who attended last year’s training. This year’s session will complement last year’s programme, with different content. Certificates will be provided on the day for completing this programme. The Ulster GAA Coaching & Games Development Conference course is on in the Glenavon House Hotel on Saturday, January 29. Anyone interested in either course, please contact Club Secretary Lorcan McAdam at 087 8505446 or secretary.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie. The Child Protection and Foundation training will take place on January 21 and 22. This training is mandatory for anyone working with children. Anyone who wants to take part can contact Val Forde at 087 9515175.
Membership: Membership fees for 2011, which are being maintained at €20, can now be paid to registrar Maurice Galligan c/o Cosy Bar or to Liadhan Treanor in the clubhouse.
Sympathy: The club sends deepest sympathy to the Scott family on the death of Helen’s mother, Nellie Mone. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Aido file: Aidan Burns is officially in his final year of Under-12 hurling as he celebrates his 12th birthday this weekend. Aidan has invited all hurlers to the Burns household for a weekend of bouncy castles, crisps and lemonade starting Friday after school! Now that the New Year is in it is great to hear all senior hurlers are teetotal for the month of January and possibly beyond! Also Jack Lee has worked out a new last man standing competition so all hurlers are asked to text their email address to Jack, Aido or Patrick to get a blank copy emailed to you. Alternatively Jack will divide out sheets at training. Money is hard to come by so we need a big push on this from all players.
Pre-season competitions: Monaghan’s game against Derry was postponed last Sunday, but two Harps players were in action elsewhere. David Hughes lined out at full-back for DIT in their win over Wexford in the O’Byrne Cup, while Gary White scored five points in IT Sligo’s narrow defeat against NUI Galway in the FBD League.
Notes: Anyone who has news for the club notes, please email them to colmshalvey2@hotmail.com by Tuesday morning.
