Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Our senior team played Cremartin last Saturday 31st May and it was very evident that a number of players were not at their best and I think a fairly simplistic description would be that it definitely was not one of our finest hours! To be honest we never really got into the game and I think it’s a fair and balanced comment to say that it was a disappointing performance from the team who looked a pale shadow of a side that we all know. When it came down to the real fight, Cremartin wanted it more. They were the better side on the night and showed a lot more hunger, they were faster, fitter and showed more desire for the win and they secured the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-7 to Cremartin 0-16. The bottom line now is that we need to pick ourselves up and get fitter and stronger for the next round of league matches because there is still plenty to play for. Looking at the league table, it’s going to take a lot of hard work, loads of commitment, plenty of sacrifices and will take leaders to lift the confidence levels within the camp. Remember lads, just because something isn’t happening for you right now doesn’t mean that it will never happen. Think positive, be positive and positive things will happen. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Fixtures It is either a feast or famine with fixtures and the next couple of weeks fits into the latter category with no games scheduled, which should give the lads ample time to get their injuries sorted! Please note that the closed holiday period is from Wednesday 23rd June to Monday 7th July inclusive, where no fixtures will be scheduled. Under 12 Summer League The under 12 summer league commences this Saturday 7th June and we have been placed in division 2B alongside Ballybay, Clontibret, Corduff, Donaghmoyne B, Doohamlet, Eire Og and Oram. At the time of going to press there was no official fixtures so please keep an eye out on our social media outlets and the SMS text service. Under 14 League Our under 14 footballers travelled to Killeevan, on Saturday 31st May, to play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg division 4 league campaign and were forced to dig very deep in this highly exciting and thrilling encounter. Despite a slight hiccup in the second quarter all players played their part in providing a top-class entertaining match that ended with a deserved win. The game was played in glorious sunshine on a perfect sod and we started the match brightly with all guns blazing and raced into an early 1-7 to 0-0 lead. With such a comfortable lead the lads appeared to take their foot of the pedal which allowed St. Tiarnach Sarsfields to get to grips with the game and they took their scoring opportunities and when the whistle blew after the first fifteen minutes the score-board showed 1-2 to 1-7. We struggled to make an impression during the second period as St. Tiarnach Sarsfields began the second half on the front foot and totally dominated proceedings playing impressive football and notched over some remarkable scores and quickly overturned a five point deficit into a six point advantage leading 4-6 to 1-9. I imagine there was quite a strong pep talk during the interval because all through the third quarter we grabbed a hold of the game and after an absorbing period we held a three point advantage going into the final quarter as the score-board showed St. Tiarnach Sarsfields 4-8 Rockcorry 3-14. The final period was an epic ding-dong battle from start to finish with very little separating the sides in what was a terrific contest. Thankfully, the lads remained strong-willed and worked extremely hard for each other and got their noses in front when it counted to emerge with the spoils on a final score-line St. Tiarnach Sarsfields 6-10 Rockcorry 5-17. Their next outing for the under 14 team in the league campaign is on Thursday 19th June when they host Oram at 7.30pm. Under 14 Championship The next outing for the under 14 footballers is on Thursday 5th June when they play Aghabog in the championship. The game is fixed for Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm. Good luck lads. Under 16 Fixtures With examinations taking centre stage for the next couple of weeks the under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 26th June when they travel to play Scotstown. Go Games Blitz The next round of Go Games Blitzs is scheduled for Saturday 14th June when the under 10 footballers will take part in an All-County blitz which takes place at the Monaghan GAA training grounds located at Cloghan, Annyalla. It starts at 9.30am and goes on to 11.30am. The under 8 players will be in action the week after, Saturday 21st June, and they too will travel to Cloghan for an All-County blitz and the same times apply.

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Where do I start, where do I begin? I really don’t know because I am lost for words to describe what is happening! As mentioned previously in my notes we are dealing with a brutal and cruel injury crisis which has pushed the club, players and manager’s to the absolute limit. If you sit down and digest the numbers we have 13-15 players who have fallen victim to injury and it just keeps growing and growing with the latest injured player Noel Carroll retiring early from last Sunday’s game against Corduff with a torn hamstring. It’s difficult not to resort to old and tired clichés in an effort to describe our pain but I think the old saying that goes “God loves a trier” is very relevant here because last Sunday 18th May when our senior team travelled to play Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league, we lined out with many off our first team players missing but the fifteen players who started tried their best and showed massive determination, tremendous commitment and incredible heart throughout the game and to me, at this moment in time, that is what it’s all about. Every player left the field with nothing else left in the tank and despite their valiant efforts they went down against a stronger Corduff side who secured a comfortable 1-16 to 0-8 victory. Right now the position feels overwhelming for many of us and it feels like every time we turn around another one of our players picks up an injury! I know it’s not easy to stay positive but at this moment we need to remain upbeat and maintain a positive attitude. Sometimes life throws you a challenge and it’s how we cope as a TEAM that will determine how and when we will overcome this unreal situation. Even though you don’t feel it now…remain focused lads because our luck will change…sometime! There’s an old Chinese proverb that’s says, “Knocked down seven times, get up eight!”…No matter how many times we get knocked down lads, we will get up again. Platinum Tanks Reserve Championship Our reserve footballers travelled to play Carrickmacross in the replay of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship last Wednesday 14th May and there was no doubting that we were the overwhelming underdogs in light of all the recent injuries. In fairness, it was a huge challenge and even miraculous that we managed to gather enough players to field a team! A team that included a third of the players who were actually fit and able to play, the second third were the walking wounded as they were carrying multiple injuries and the final third contained a bunch of over 40’s who came out of hibernation so that we could fulfil the fixture! Against all the odds the lads showed they were more than capable of matching their opponents and it was no shame to lose the game. Looking at the players faces after the game they were really exhausted, battered and sore leaving the pitch because every player gave it their all and showed all the traits of heart, spirit, character, leadership, honesty and most importantly they displayed enormous pride of wearing the green jersey. The team grew stronger with every minute and they all worked extremely hard and there was great teamwork and some very impressive scores and perhaps with a bit more believe during the first period who knows what might have happened but Carrickmacross secured the victory on a score-line 3-16 to 2-14. Hard luck lads, you did yourselves and the club very proud. A full match report and a selection of action shots can be viewed on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie Platinum Tanks Reserve League The reserve team are back in action on Sunday 25th May when they travel to play Donaghmoyne and the game has an early throw-in time of 12.30pm. Under 12 Spring League Finals Day This Saturday 24th May, is the under 12 Spring league finals day which takes place in the Monaghan training grounds at Cloghan, Annyalla. We have been drawn against the mighty Clontibret and the game has a throw-in time of 2.00pm sharp. The emphasis on the day is FUN and RESPECT and I would encourage as many parents and families to go and support the youngsters on this fun day. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the team mentors and all the players the very best of luck in their final. Under 14 Fixtures Our under 14 footballers secured a well-earned victory over Tyholland in a keenly contested & hard fought battle that was played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire last Saturday 17th May. This was a thrilling match where two determined sides did themselves and the game proud and while the scoreboard shows an eleven point winning margin a gutsy Tyholland side made us fight to the bitter end in this highly exciting encounter that produced some brilliant scores from both sides. In perfect conditions we played with the aid of a slight breeze during the first quarter and produced a fantastic performance full of skill and free-flowing football and at the end we enjoyed a healthy 3-3 to 0-5 advantage. The visitors emerged for the second period in determined fashion and fired over three unanswered points and then quickly added a goal to close the gap to a couple of points. However, with virtually the last kick of the half Pauric O’Brien’s speculative attempt at a point deceived the Tyholland goal-keeper and dropped under the cross bar for a fortuitous goal which kept us firmly in the driving seat leading 4-3 to 1-8 at the midway stage. When play resumed in the third quarter it began at a fast pace with great commitment being shown from both sets of players and there were even some robust exchanges all around the field. It was end to end stuff as Tyholland came out fighting but our defence were in top form and restricted Tyholland to only two points while we tagged on 1-2 to maintain our lead, leading 5-5 to 1-10. The final quarter continued to be a competitive affair with both teams enjoying periods of possession and Tyholland really piled on the pressure during the early moments in search of goals but our lads dug deep and defended stoutly and while they did manage to break through and score 1-2 we slotted over an impressive 2-3 to claim the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 7-8 Tyholland 2-12. The next outing for the under 14 footballers is on Saturday 31st May when they travel to play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields and the game has a throw-in time of 12 noon. Under 16 Fixtures Our under 16 footballers travelled to Oram last Thursday 15th May to play Emerald Sarsfields in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league campaign and paid a heavy price for wastefulness as our wayward shooting let us down on a few occasions whereas Emerald Sarsfields on the other hand were a lot more economical in front of the posts and secured the spoils. The game was played in glorious conditions and the first half was evenly contested with both teams displaying some breath-taking football where the action was end to end stuff and after an exciting first thirty minutes we trailed by two points with the scoreboard showing Emerald Sarsfields 4-5 Rockcorry 3-6. When play resumed the match continued at a hectic pace and Emerald Sarsfields enjoyed a mini purple patch and the concession of early goals proved decisive because midway through the second half they held a commanding 8-6 to 3-11 advantage. However, the lads responded positively and there was no faulting the commitment from the team as they continued to battle on and during the closing stages of this highly entertaining encounter they fired over some impressive scores but unfortunately the final whistle sounded and Emerald Sarsfields sealed the victory on a final score-line 8-8 to 4-14. The under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 26th June when they travel to play Scotstown. Go Games Blitz Pairc Naomh Mhuire was certainly transformed into a hive of activity last Saturday 17th May as we hosted a very enjoyable and exciting Under 10 Go Games Blitz. The main objective of the Go Games is to provide full participation and give all children a chance to play our games in a fun and an enjoyable environment. As always it was great to see so many youngsters from various clubs having fun playing our National game and it is always great to see the future stars of the club perform at this level in a carefree and exciting manner. Thankfully, the weather stayed dry and teams competing on the day included Clones, Drumhowan, Emyvale, Tyholland and our own wee bunch of warrior’s. Each team played three games and all matches were very entertaining and free-flowing and full credit to all the coaches and mentors for having the teams well organised. All the boys and girls acquitted themselves exceptionally well and gave a wonderful display, showing great enthusiasm and the signs are promising for the future.
