Seniors: Clones welcomed Donaghmoyne to St Tiarnach’s Park on Saturday evening last.After a disappointing result against Corduff last time out,the home side were hoping to get back to winning ways.This was the reverse of the first game of the league where Donaghmoyne had comprehensively defeated us. Saturday produced a very entertaining game with plenty of passion and determination on display from both sides.The conditions were perfect and the first half was an even enough affair until Donaghmoyne fired three goals between the 18th and 21st minutes to leave the home side reeling and behind by six points at the break.Clones showed their character in the second half, demonstrating the ability in the panel, to dominate proceedings. The margin was reduced to one point, but with Clones increasing the pressure on the Donaghmoyne defence the final whistle sounded on a scoreline of Clones 0-15 Donaghmoyne 3-07. Despite ending in defeat,this was an encouraging performance from Clones. With half of the league programme completed we find ourselves very much in contention for the play-off positions in this extremely competitive division.There is very little between any of the teams and there are sure to be many more interesting games ahead as we battle for those all-important league points. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Our senior team played Cremartin last Saturday 31st May and it was very evident that a number of players were not at their best and I think a fairly simplistic description would be that it definitely was not one of our finest hours! To be honest we never really got into the game and I think it’s a fair and balanced comment to say that it was a disappointing performance from the team who looked a pale shadow of a side that we all know. When it came down to the real fight, Cremartin wanted it more. They were the better side on the night and showed a lot more hunger, they were faster, fitter and showed more desire for the win and they secured the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-7 to Cremartin 0-16. The bottom line now is that we need to pick ourselves up and get fitter and stronger for the next round of league matches because there is still plenty to play for. Looking at the league table, it’s going to take a lot of hard work, loads of commitment, plenty of sacrifices and will take leaders to lift the confidence levels within the camp. Remember lads, just because something isn’t happening for you right now doesn’t mean that it will never happen. Think positive, be positive and positive things will happen. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Fixtures It is either a feast or famine with fixtures and the next couple of weeks fits into the latter category with no games scheduled, which should give the lads ample time to get their injuries sorted! Please note that the closed holiday period is from Wednesday 23rd June to Monday 7th July inclusive, where no fixtures will be scheduled. Under 12 Summer League The under 12 summer league commences this Saturday 7th June and we have been placed in division 2B alongside Ballybay, Clontibret, Corduff, Donaghmoyne B, Doohamlet, Eire Og and Oram. At the time of going to press there was no official fixtures so please keep an eye out on our social media outlets and the SMS text service. Under 14 League Our under 14 footballers travelled to Killeevan, on Saturday 31st May, to play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg division 4 league campaign and were forced to dig very deep in this highly exciting and thrilling encounter. Despite a slight hiccup in the second quarter all players played their part in providing a top-class entertaining match that ended with a deserved win. The game was played in glorious sunshine on a perfect sod and we started the match brightly with all guns blazing and raced into an early 1-7 to 0-0 lead. With such a comfortable lead the lads appeared to take their foot of the pedal which allowed St. Tiarnach Sarsfields to get to grips with the game and they took their scoring opportunities and when the whistle blew after the first fifteen minutes the score-board showed 1-2 to 1-7. We struggled to make an impression during the second period as St. Tiarnach Sarsfields began the second half on the front foot and totally dominated proceedings playing impressive football and notched over some remarkable scores and quickly overturned a five point deficit into a six point advantage leading 4-6 to 1-9. I imagine there was quite a strong pep talk during the interval because all through the third quarter we grabbed a hold of the game and after an absorbing period we held a three point advantage going into the final quarter as the score-board showed St. Tiarnach Sarsfields 4-8 Rockcorry 3-14. The final period was an epic ding-dong battle from start to finish with very little separating the sides in what was a terrific contest. Thankfully, the lads remained strong-willed and worked extremely hard for each other and got their noses in front when it counted to emerge with the spoils on a final score-line St. Tiarnach Sarsfields 6-10 Rockcorry 5-17. Under 14 Championship The next outing for the under 14 footballers is on Thursday 5th June when they play Aghabog in the championship. Under 16 Fixtures With examinations taking centre stage for the next couple of weeks the under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 26th June when they travel to play Scotstown. Go Games Blitz The next round of Go Games Blitzs is scheduled for Saturday 14th June when the under 10 footballers will take part in an All-County blitz which takes place at the Monaghan GAA training grounds located at Cloghan, Annyalla. It starts at 9.30am and goes on to 11.30am. The under 8 players will be in action the week after, Saturday 21st June, and they too will travel to Cloghan for an All-County blitz and the same times apply.

Seniors: Our seniors lost by the narrowest last Saturday against Ballybay in a tremendous battle, 3-8 to 1-15. Though we opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a Chrissy McKenna free, it was Ballybay who had the upper hand in the first half and led 0-7 to 0-2 after 23 minutes. A late flurry of long range points by Adam Treanor and Chrissy McKenna reduced this margin to just 3 points, 0-6 to 0-9 by half time. The second half was a memorable half filled with many fine scores and goals. The game’s first goal came in the 33rd minute from a fisted Niall Rooney goal levelling game. This was followed by a fine individual goal from Chrissy McKenna who sent us back into the lead in the 35th minute. Chrissy McAnanley followed in on the goalscoring act, netting in the 40th minute after a Ballybay point to increase our winning margin 3-6 to 0-10. Ballybay responded with 3 successive points before Adam Treanor pointed from afar to leave just a goal between the sides with 10 minutes remaining. This margin was wiped in the 51st minute when Ballybay converted a penalty. We regained the lead in the 55th minute with an Adam Treanor point but 2 late Ballybay points in the 57th and 59th minutes overturned this lead to leave the full time score Gaeil Triucha 3-8 Ballybay 1-15. DR WARD CUP: We recorded a morale boosting victory in Newbliss last Saturday night defeating Killeevan 6-05 to 0-14. Four goals two either side of half time were the match winning scores in a game which was much closer than the score line suggests. A late goal by Jason Mc Donald aided by a fine cross field pass by Chris Mc Geough helped seal the game in the closing minutes. Our next game in the league is home to Toome on the 22nd June. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP: We play Aghabog in Drumhowan this Saturday at 6pm. Little has separated the sides in league and championship in recent seasons and Saturday night will undoubtedly be no different. Good luck to team and management. RACE NITE: Our Race nite takes place on Saturday 14th June at 9pm, horses on sale at £10, race sponsorships available for £100 and £50, the response from business and club supporters has as usual been very positive with a number of races full already contact committee if interested in sponsoring the event. u-12 s: Lost to Doohamlet in the Blackhill sports on Monday last by four points, we have been grouped in division 2B of the u-12 summer competition which commences soon.
