Seniors: We exited the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship with a Round 2B defeat against Clontibret in Emyvale last Sunday. A bright start saw scores by Gary White, Nicholas Treanor and Aodhán Óg McAnespie give us a three-point lead by the end of the opening quarter, but we missed some chances to extend that advantage. Kevin Loughran and Éimhín Morahan added a point each before half-time, but four converted frees allowed Clontibret to draw level at 0-5 apiece. Michael Galligan kicked the first point of the second half, but the concession of scoreable frees continued to haunt us throughout. Gary, Shane Smyth and David Hughes got points to keep us in touch, but Clontibret hit four of the last five scores to make it 0-15 to 0-9 in their favour.

Team and scorers: Ashley White; David Lowry, Nicholas Scott, Kevin Loughran (0-1); Dean Fanning, Conor Galligan (Capt.), Niall Hahessy; Stephen Driver, Aodhán Óg McAnespie (0-1); Nicholas Treanor (0-1f), Gary White (0-2, 1f), Michael Galligan (0-1); Neil McAdam, Shane Smyth (0-1), Éimhín Morahan (0-1).

Subs: Fearghal McMahon for Morahan (39 mins), David Hughes (0-1) for Treanor (45).

Our attentions now turn to the rest of the Monaghan Credit Unions SFL campaign, with our next game due to be at home to Clontibret on Saturday, September 3.

Summer Camp: Our 2016 Monaghan Harps Summer Camp was a great success last week, with over 100 boys and girls enjoying the football, hurling, handball and music at Gavan Duffy Park. The weather took a downward turn after a great start to the week, but the club’s youngsters continued to make the most of the fun and games on the pitch and in the clubhouse. Fearghal McMahon brought along the Ulster Under-21 Championship trophy for photos on Friday, while all participants received their Harps bags and hats and co-ordinator Shane Smyth again thanked everyone who contributed to our third in-house camp. Thanks to Shane, Conor Forde and all the coaches involved for a job well done.

Myles McCann Tournament: We competed in Errigal Ciarán’s Myles McCann Tournament in Ballygawley last Saturday. We played some great football to qualify from our group with three straight wins, while conceding just one point. Shea Swift, Jake McConnon, Adam McGarry, Tiarnán O’Rourke, Kevin Moran, James McKenny, Liam Conway, Seán Callan and Gary Devlin were all on target across the three games as we played some excellent football against Tyrone sides Beragh and Errigal Ciarán and Carryduff from Down. We took on two more Tyrone teams in the knock-out stages, starting with a quarter-final against Loughmacrory, where points from Kevin, Tiarnán, Liam, Shea and Michael McMorrow earned us a 0-8 to 0-4 win. Tiarnán was to the fore in our semi-final, but Killyclogher edged through on a 0-6 to 0-5 scoreline, before going on to win the final. We were very well represented on the day by Seán Callan, Liam Conway, Gary Devlin, Patrick Dooley-Duffy, Jake McConnon, Adam McGarry, James McKenny, Michael McMorrow, Kevin Moran, Tiarnán O’Rourke and Shea Swift.

Minors: Our injury-hampered 2016 minor football campaign has come to an end with the conclusion of the group stage of the Division One League Shield. Thanks to Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe, Paudge Connolly, Brian Lenehan, Michael Buckley and the players for their efforts during the year.
