Emmets Lotto! The club lotto was as usual held on Monday night in the Emmet Centre where the four numbers drawn were 11, 16, 18 and 21 however no person matched the numerals on this occasion which means that the new jackpot will rise to €1,300. Congratulations to our lucky dip winners Adrian McCluskey, Magherboy Road, who wins a €50 “keep it local” voucher. The winners of the €20 vouchers were S &C Murray, Kingscourt Road and Molly Gilroy c/o Emmets Ladies Club. The last €10 voucher went to Sandra McCooey Cloughvalley Lower.Emmets Fixtures! Sunday sees the recommencement of the Intermediate League and the Emmets travel to Cremartin to play the locals at 4.00pm and then on Wednesday another journey as far as Aughnamullen for a game which is fixed for 8.00pm. These two matches will bring the first half of the league to a conclusion and hopefully the Emmets will continue in the rich form that has seen them sit at the top of the table! Your support could be a big factor in that!

Emmets Wedding Bells! The club extends our wholehearted best wishes to two former outstanding Emmet players, who got married in the recent pass; both of whom served the club with distinction while wearin’ the green. John McNally a strong defender “when in full flight” was married on Friday last to Eileen Marron who hails from Corduff; both the Marron and McNally families produced excellent football players for their respective clubs the “Emmets” and the “Gaels” and hopefully the pedigree and lineage will continue well into the future for John and his lovely bride Eileen! Barry Courtney; a former tough uncompromising midfielder for the Emmets; went a little further for his beautiful bride; to “Beautiful Meath” We wish the newly married couple Barry and Nicola every happiness and goodwill for their future together and hope that all their small problems will be little footballers! By all accounts a great time and celebration was had by all in Lough Eske Castle in the “Hills of Donegal” and why not!

Emmets Invitation! Calling all Emmet friends, past players, supporters, members and anyone who can help over the Bank holiday as the Emmets hit the town! Three days of activity is planned for the Emmets tent during the Festival weekend and it is going to take a great effort from volunteers to man that particular period. Emmets Congratulations! Patrician High School made use of the first half wind advantage to build up a good early lead that Holy Trinity; Cookstown could not overhaul during the second half of this Danske Bank Corn Cholmchille final in Emyvale on Tuesday last. The Carrickmacross boys went six-points up after sixteen minutes. The Tyrone side managed to curtail Patrician to 1-01 in the next quarter, quite an achievement given the strength of the breeze. The Patrician goal was a top-class score with Donnchadha Swinburne picking up the ball at the half-back line and he soloed through the opposition defence and planted a sweet left-foot effort to the top corner of the net! (1-07 to 0-02) Devlin gave Trinity the perfect start to the second half with a goal inside the first minute of play but they were not permitted to build on it and about three minutes later Ryan Shekelton’s effort; seemingly for a point; just dipped under the crossbar for a goal. There then followed three penalty-kicks. The first fell to Trinity but Mulgrew’s effort went over the bar for a point and Donnchadha Swinburne’s did likewise for Carrickmacross with his spot-kick with fifteen minutes remaining. Then within five minutes later the third penalty was awarded to Patrician and Jordan McGarrell finished emphatically to the back of the net; securing the vital killer goal. Cookstown hit a late goal and a point to narrow the gap but it was too late! Patrician saw out the game with six-points to spare and take the under thirteen Ulster title! It was a hard fought win in a closely contested match. The final score was Patrician High School 3-09 Holy Trinity 2-06. Emmets Condolences! A vote of sympathy was passed at a recent meeting of the Emmets club to families who suffered bereavements recently. To the Drury family; Woodlands; on the death of Elizabeth Drury a wonderful lady who had such a welcoming demeanor; she always had time for a bit of rapport which was the hallmark of her long and marvelous life which in turn made it a pleasure to be in her company. Her late husband Jim was a former chairman of the Monaghan Juvenile Board and it was he who was presented with the Fr McHugh cup as the first trophy for under the fourteen football championship. Her son Pat also donned the Emmets jersey in his footballing days and we offer our condolences to him and the remainder of the Drury family. To the relatives and friends of James Lennon of Cornalaragh and in particular to his beloved wife Madge; sons and daughters; we send our sympathies on the loss of a man who in his earlier days was a competent footballer who always had a good affiliation to the GAA and Gaelic games. The club remembers George Meegan: A photograph of a group of young Carrick Emmet lads aged about 13/14 from 1961 included a young lad called George Meegan who was from St Macartan’s Villas. George’s funeral was in Ardee in February and I wondered if any of the older members remember him. He was aged 67. Hopefully some of his family are left in Carrickmacross and he has not been forgotten. It was a photo which he obviously treasured and it stood beside his coffin. Lots of his classmates are still living around Carrickmacross and it would be nice to hear about him.
