McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship
When Donegal defeated Dublin in last week’s epic All Ireland semi-final battle their manager Jim McGuinnes saluted his players for their honest and incredible efforts. Last Friday night (5th September) when our senior team gathered for the after-match team huddle after their great win against Tyholland (who I would consider one of the great championship teams) in the McGuigan Builders Intermediate football championship that word “honesty” was again emphasised by our team manager, Mickey Morgan, as he praised the team for their courage, huge commitment and honest endeavour. There were some great individual displays with some creative flair but it was a real workmanlike performance from the whole team where all players made a valuable contribution to secure a great win on a score-line Rockcorry 0-14 Tyholland 0-11. Well done to all players and management for producing a fantastic win, it was absolutely outstanding and it just goes to show what can be done with team spirit, great heart, a positive attitude, huge commitment and determination. You have given the club a massive and long overdue boost and with that kind of attitude and character you can achieve anything no matter what the odds may seem. Well done lads, keep up the good work at training and be ready for the next round which takes place this weekend against Cremartin and will prove to be a massive challenge.
McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football Championship
After last weekend’s championship matches Cremartin will be our opponents in the next round of the McGuigan Builders intermediate football championship. It all takes place this Saturday evening, 13th September, at Drumhown and throw-in time is 5.30pm.
Go Games Double Blitz
A very enjoyable and exciting Go Games was held last Saturday 6th September when our under 8 and under 10 footballers made the short journey to Latton to take part in the blitz. This was once again a very enjoyable and successful blitz campaign and the lovely weather conditions added to the excitement with all the children from various clubs across the county having fun. Competing clubs on the day included Clones, Corduff, Magheracloone, Latton and our own bunch of wee warriors and it is always great to see a good turnout of kids perform at this level and enjoying themselves in a fun environment and that’s what’s it’s all about. It was truly a very entertaining and successful day and well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the blitz. All kids acquitted themselves exceptionally well, showing plenty of enthusiasm and displayed loads of energy and the signs are positive for a bright future. It was also wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the children and a special word of mention to the hard working coaches & mentors of all the clubs who freely give up their time voluntarily on a Saturday morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club. Well done everyone and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation. Finally, many thanks to the Latton club for hosting the blitz and on behalf of the club I would like to sincerely thank all the parents for their on-going commitment for travelling to the blitz and for supporting all the players.
Go Games Blitz
The under 8 footballers will compete in their last Go Games Blitz this Saturday 13th September when they travel to Doohamlet. It all kicks off at 10am and finishes at 12 noon. The last blitz for the under 10 players will take place on Saturday 27th September also in Doohamlet between 10am and 12 noon.
Underage Tournaments
Our youth officer Pascal Smyth is currently organising our customary end of year tournaments for the Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup and the Terence Reilly Memorial Shield. The exact dates has not been confirmed yet but we anticipate that they will take place in October!
