Presentation
At our annual presentation evening in the presence of our Number one trophy Sam Maguire which was held in the Community Centre on Sunday evening last. After a tasty meal secretary Michael Crawley opened proceedings by welcoming all present and called on chairman Johnny Quinn for a cupla focail. Then County Board representative Padraig Sherry spoke a few words of wisdom encouraging all the juveniles to stick playing with their club and if in doubt always ask for help as there is always help at hand. He give a special mention to our players who are representing our club at county level. Adam and Andrew Kieran and Shane Grimes at Minor level, Ronan and Tiernan Duffy at under 21. A special mention to Luke Cunningham whom he wished well. He thanked the referees Dermot Boylan and Mary O Callaghan for their work and also thanked Seamus Murray for his advice which sometimes he didnt take. He also had warm words of praise for the ever obliging Lorny Duffy whom he worked down through the years. Padraig also had great praise for the County pro John Kieran.
Youth officer Martin Burns introduced the Under 14 team and Padraig presented them with their medals. Next was the victorious winning under 16 team was introduced by Martin and Padraig also did the honours. The five players that played on the victorious Patrician High School team who won the Lochin Iuir Cup by beating St Pats Belfast were also honoured by the club. They were Eddie Walsh, Dean Connolly, Daniel Leegan, Darragh Markey and Shane Finnegan. Next the very well deserved Senior player of the Year Award went to the hard working Tiernan Duffy. Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame went to Henry Campbell. Henry gave many years of service to the Geraldines starting in the early 50’s and as part of the under 14 team that won the McHugh Cup for the first time in 1953.Henry always gave of his best on the playing pitch operating around the mid field and never afraid to mop up the dirty ball he was also known to look after his playing mates on the pitch. He was part of the senior amalgamation side involving Magheracloone , Carrick and Killanny and known as Naomh Padraig.Henry was captain of the 1960 Killanny side that lost to Drumhowan in Carrick on new Years Day. Henry was very seldom if ever injured and was known to look after his ham strings with great care. We are delighted to hand over the Hall of Fame to Henry to thank him for his services to our gaa cause and to wish him every success with his upcoming operation. Many years of happiness to yourself and wife Mary and your family.
Race Night
Our race night takes place in the Community Centre on this Friday night 22nd February at 9 oclock. All the sponsors should be with Michael Crawley before Thursday evening. Make sure that your horse is listed for the night with any committee member.
Trench Cup
We wish our own Ronan Duffy and St Pats Drumcondra the best of luck in the semi final of the Trench Cup being played in Athlone on Friday and should they win the final will be played the following day.
Congratulations
Well done to Seamus McConnon who won the under 21 ploughing championships in Monaghan . He now goes on to represent Monaghan in the All Ireland Ploughing championships in Laois next September.Well done Seamus.
Sympathy
