IFC Cremartin v Aughnamullen

Despite scoring two goals in the first half last Sunday, we were defeated by Aughnamullen in Aughnamullen on a scoreline of 2-03 to 1.09 after a very disappointing second half performance.  Team and scores: Damien Lavelle, Fergal Mulligan, Patrick McGuigan, Conor Mulligan, Jonathan McGuigan, Declan Farrell (0-1), Kevin Atkinson, Niall Flanagan, Barry Carragher, Shaun Buckley (1-0), Kevin Brennan (1-0), Eanna Atkinson, Shane Burke, Gary Boyd (0-1) and Darren Bishop (0-1).  Subs Used: Ryan McVicar, Stephen Bishop and Martin McNally.

U-16 Championship Winners

On the 23/8/12 we played St Pat’s in the D3 league final in Oram, and unfortunately after an eleven game unbeaten run we fell at the final hurdle going down 4-8 to 3-7. Everybody was disappointed but decided to regroup and give the championship a real lash.

First up were Magheracloone at home on the 30/8/12 and after a tight 45 mins our lads pulled away in the final quarter to win by 3-23 to 2-10.

Next up were Clones in Clones on the 6/9/12 and it turned out to be a real thriller leading by six points, we conceded a goal just before half time and Clones followed this up with four unanswered points at the start of the second half to lead by one. The lads responded with a goal and from there to the end it was hell for leather.  We showed great courage, determination and skill to finish ahead by 4-9 to 3-8 in what was probably their most complete performance of the season and where Barry Kerr was outstanding.

The final versus Aughnamullen was played on the 13/9/12 in Inniskeen under lights on what was a very wild, windy night.  Playing with the wind we went ahead courtesy of Aidan Kerr with two frees and one pt from play, only to concede a couple of points rather easily.  Back we came with a goal by Shane Carragher after good approach play by Aidan Kerr.  Mark Brennan added a good point from play but Aughnamullen responded with two points and a goal just before half time to leave it 1-4 to 1-4 at the break.  At this stage momentum was with Aughnamullen.  In the 2nd half playing against the wind our men showed what they were really made of.  Leading by example, Captain Ciaran Hanley played his heart out.  Early on we went one ahead thanks to a good point from play by Kevin McVicar. Shortly afterwards Shane Carragher was fouled in the area and Ciaran Hanley converted the penalty to leave us four up.  At this stage Kevin McVicar, Mark Brennan, John Leonard and Vaidas Ruikis were in full control around the middle and this possession enabled Philip McGuigan to find the net to leave us seven ahead.  For the next twenty mins Barry Kerr, Ryan Farrelly and full backs Kevin Tomany and Terry Kerr together with the forwards covering back helped to keep Aughnamullen at arm’s length except for one occasion, when goalkeeper James Lavelle saved brilliantly to cap a fine individual performance.  Unfortunately Kevin Tomany sustained a leg injury and was replaced by Eanna Malone who showed good touch and awareness to help create points in the last twenty mins for Aidan Kerr and John Leonard in reply to three points from Aughnamullen.  For their part Aughnamullen never gave up with real commitment and attitude shown to the final whistle.  Overall the lads displayed good attitude, commitment, teamwork, skill and worked extremely hard on a big pitch to see out the year on a high note.  Well done to all connected with the team. Take a bow!

Final score Cremartin 3-7 Aughnamullen 1-7.  Team: James Lavelle, Kevin Tomany, Terry Kerr, Mark Brennan (0-1) Barry Kerr, Ryan Farrelly, Vaidas Ruikis, Kevin McVicar(0-1), John Leonard(0-1), Kieran Hanley(1-0), Philip McGuigan(1-0), Shane Carragher(1-0), Aidan Kerr(0-4 3f), Subs: Eanna Malone, Darragh Duffy, Cathal Kerr, Oisin Farrelly, Conor McNally.

Get Well Soon: The Management and players wish Kevin Tomany a full and speedy recovery from his leg injury.
