The 2025 A.M Sports Monaghan Senior Hurling Championship got underway last night (Aug 13th) with three quarter-finals taking place

Carrickmacross 2-19 Monaghan Harps 1-16

Venue: Emmett Park, Carrickmacross

Jack Guinan and substitute Jason O’Rourke raised green flags in either half as Carrickmacross secured their place in the SHC last four. Monaghan Harps raced into a 4-1 lead before Guinans goal drew Carrick’ level on the 12th minute. Further scores from the lively Oran Kiernan and Eoghan Hoey helped Carrick into a 1-09 to 0-8 lead with Monaghan Harps finding their range through Eithan Flynn and James Brady. A Ryan Moran goal 7 minutes into the second half drew the game level at 1-11 a piece but it was Carrick who would go on to hit the next two scores through Ryan O’Rourke. Sean Conway reduced the deficit to one for Monaghan Harps 6 minutes from time before O’Rourkes major sealed a Carrick win and condemned the ‘Harps to the Junior Championship.

Truagh 0-21 Clontibret 2-14

Venue: St Mellans, Truagh

Truagh qualified for their first SHC Semifinal since 2022, but it wasn’t without a scare, when they were pushed all the way by a gallant Clontibret challenge in St Mellans. In a stop start first half it was the home side that led by the minimum, 0-11 to 1-07, with Shane McNally registering the goal. Truagh pushed 3 clear midway through the second half but a goal on the 50th minute and a point from Emmett Walsh had last years Junior Championship finalist in front coming down the straight. Truagh were reduced to 14 players in the final few minutes, and trailing by a point, but hit two late scores to ensure their place in Fridays semifinal draw. For Clontibret, their attention now turns to a Junior Championship semifinal where they will no doubt be eyeing a return back to the decider.

Inniskeen 2-28 Latton 0-05

Venue: Pairc Grattan, Inniskeen

2023 Champions Inniskeen hosted a youthful Latton team competing in their first Monaghan SHC fixture since 2009. Latton would have taken belief from the SHL meeting where they registered 5-08 that night but it was one-way traffic in the first half as Inniskeen led 0-15 to 0-02 at the break and continued their ruthless scoring streak in the second half. To their credit, Latton battled manfully to the final whistle with Inniskeen raising their green flags late in the second half but it was a case of job done for Inniskeen as their attention now turns back to the familiar territory that is the Senior Championship Semifinals.
