Presentation Of The New Mick Quigley Cup
On Monday evening prior to the start of the Football & Hurling Championship Launch The Quigley Family presented the new Mick Quigley Cup to Cathaoirleach Declan. Monaghan GAA extends a massive thank you to the Quigley Family for presenting the new cup for the Senior Hurling Championship.

This original cup was presented to Monaghan County Board for the Senior Hurling Championship in 1997, by the Quigley family of Currin in memory of the late Mick Quigley, who was a man deeply immersed in the GAA for his entire lifetime.
A native of Clonmel, Co Tipperary, whom he represented in both football and hurling, Mick, later moved to Dublin as an employee in the Civil Service, where he was a founder member of the Civil Service Club in the capital. He was also one of the moving lights behind the staging of the All Ireland “home” final in 1947 between Monaghan and Cork.
His employment by the Department of Agriculture brought him to Cavan in 1949, and his marriage to Mary Smith saw him put down roots in the Scotshouse area of County Monaghan and he was a very dedicated member of the Currin club.
Mick played hurling for both Cavan and Monaghan at different stages but it was with Monaghan that he made his greatest contribution to the game. He won a Senior Hurling Championship medal with Clones and was the trainer of the Monaghan team that won the county’s first ever Ulster Junior hurling championship in 1971.
Mick served as County Committee Delegate for the Currin Gaa club for many years and was elected to the Vice Chairmanship of Monaghan County Board in 1967, a position he held until 1972.
The first winners of the Mick Quigley Cup were Clontibret.
