Minor Bs win the U17 Division 4 Championship!
A massive congratulations and well done to our Under 17 Scotstown B team and management in an amazing championship final win against Monaghan Harps on Monday last in Emyvale. This was the second final the 2 sides have met each other this year and was as an epic encounter as the League Cup final, which Scotstown won in extra time back in August. Monaghan Harps started strongly and were 2-1 to 0-0 ahead after 7 minutes. Scotstown opened their scoring 6 minutes later with the 1st of Cathal McElwain’s superb points. Within the next 7 minutes Scotstown reduced the deficit to just a point with 5 further excellent points by Cathal making the score 2-1 to 0-6. Monaghan Harps responded with 2 points before Gareth Rhatigan scored a well placed point on 28 minutes. The Harps restored their 3 point advantage just before half time making the score Scotstown 0-7 Monaghan Harps 2-4. The first 11 minutes of the second half was evenly balance with both sides exchanging points like for like with Shane Murray, Joe Foley and Cathal McElwain scoring fine points for the Blues. However Monaghan Harps scored a goal and Scotstown had a 6 point deficit with the score at 3-7 to 0-10. The Blues responded strongly with a well placed penalty by Cathal McElwain bringing the gap back down to 3 points. Spurred on by the goal, Scotstown pressed for further scores and were 1 point behind 2 minutes later with well placed points by Cathal McElwain and Hugh Murray. Scotstown kept the pressure on and with 5 minutes remaining of normal time scored the elusive equaliser with an excellent point by Ellis Foy. However Monaghan Harps responded and with 3 minutes remaining restored their lead with a point. Scotstown pressed again in search of the equaliser and in the last minute of the game Caolin Clerkin drilled home an amazing goal to give the Scotstown the lead in dramatic fashion. Monaghan Harps pressed looking for a goal, but Scotstown held their nerve and saw out the nail-biting injury time period to secure the championship trophy. Well done to the lads and the management to turnaround a 6 point deficit against a strong Monaghan Harps team and to never give up and win a brilliant game of football. Commiserations and hard luck to Monaghan Harps, who played superb football. Many thanks to Emyvale GAA for brilliantly hosting the final.
