Massive congratulations to our Double winning Under 16 girls’ teams and management who won the U16 LGFA Championships last week! Our Under 16 Scotstown A team won the Division 1 County Championship on Tuesday of last week and the Under 16 Scotstown B team won the Division 2 County Championship on Thursday last, The Scotstown A team completed an amazing league and championship cup double.

2023 Monaghan Club Senior Football Championship – Scotstown qualify for the final
On a warm and sunny October Sunday afternoon our Senior Men travelled to St. Tiarnachs Park, Clones for the Semi Finals of the Greenfield Foods Senior Championship. This was part of a double header were Scotstown faced Corduff and Inniskeen played Clontibret. Congratulations and well done to our Senior team and management in winning the game 1-13 to 1-6 and qualifying for the Monaghan Senior Championship final for the 11th year in a row. The Scotstown players showed excellent composure and discipline and played some superb clean football to secure a final place spot. The Blues led by 4 points, 0-9 to 1-2 at half time with superb scores from Jack McCarron (2), Ryan O’Toole (2), Kieran Hughes, Mattie Maguire, Jason Carey, Donal Morgan, Shane Carey (1 each). In the second half Scotstown maintained their lead and added four more points to their tally with brilliant points by Jack McCarron (2), Shane Carey and Conor McCarthy. Deep into injury time, a fine run by Conor McCarthy set up Francis Maguire who superbly drilled it into the back of the net securing the Semi Final victory for Scotstown. Congratulations to Ryan O’Toole on winning man of the match. Many thanks to Clones GAA for superbly hosting the Semi Final as always. In the other Semi Final Inniskeen defeated Clontibret and Scotstown will play Inniskeen in the Senior Championship Final on Sunday 22nd October. We wish the team and management the very best in the final.
The Fixture and results for the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, our senior men drew Donaghmoyne, Inniskeen, Clontibret and Magheracloone and were in Group 2. The results were; Sunday 13th August away to Inniskeen (L 0-12 to 1-11); Sunday 27th August home to Magheracloone (W 4-19 to 0-11); Saturday 9th September away to Donaghmoyne (W 2-14 to 0-11); Sunday 17th September home to Clontibret (W 1-16 to 0-13); Sunday 1st October Quarter Final against Aughnamullen W 2-14 to 1-8 in Clontibret; Sunday 8th October Semi Final W 1-13 to 0-9. Final: Sunday 22nd October against Inniskeen

Senior Ladies
The Monaghan Ladies Senior League resumed last weekend with the Round 4 games. Well done to our Senior Ladies this morning in their 4-11 to 0-5 win over Corduff away in the Senior Ladies league game on Sunday last. They next play Magheracloone at home in the Senior LGFA Division 1 League Round 5 game this Sunday 8th October at 12:30pm.
Under 18 Girls
The Under 18 LGFA Championship commenced last weekend. Our Under 18 girls’ team played Killanny at home on Saturday last in the quarter final. Well done to the team and management in their superb win. They next play Castleblayney away in the U18 LGFA Championship Semi Final this Friday 13th October at 7:00pm.
Under 16 Girls – Double success last week!
Last week both of our Under 16 girls’ teams featured in Championship Finals. On Tuesday 3rd October our Scotstown A team played Aughnamullen in the Under 16 Division 1 Championship Final in Cloghan, A massive congratulations and well done to the team and management in
their 2-9 to 1-10 win over Aughnamullen and securing the league and championship cup double. The first 15 minutes were tense but entertaining and evenly matched with no one taking a significant lead. Scotstown scored some fine points from play by Hollie Mullen, Ellie Graham and Trea McKenna, but were evenly matched by Aughnamullen making the score 0-4 to 0-4 all. The second quarter continued on a similar theme, but Scotstown took a narrow lead into half time 0-6 to 0-5 with 2 further superb points from play by Kate McKenna and Caoimhe Kelly. Scotstown started the second half strongly and within 3 minutes were 5 points up after an excellent goal by Kate McKenna and a well placed point by Katie McCormick. After 15 minutes Scotstown maintained their 5 point advantage with further fine points by Kate McKenna and Ava McGinnity making the score 1-9 to 0-7. Aughnamullen reduced their deficit to 4 points but with 5 minutes to go an excellent goal by Michaela Grew gave Scotstown a comfortable lead going into the final stages of the game with a score of 2-9 to 0-8. Aughnamullen made a spirited comeback and scored a goal 2 minutes later. Deep in injury time Aughnamullen reduced the margin to just 2 points ensuring a nail-biting end to the final, but the Under 16 girls held their nerve and secured the Championship with a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-10. Well done to the team and management and congratulations on winning the league cup and the championship this year. Hard luck and commiserations to Aughnamullen and many thanks to Monaghan GAA for superbly hosting the final at the Monaghan Centre of excellence in Cloghan.

On Thursday of last week the Under 16 Scotstown B girls team aimed to follow up on the A team’s success with winning the U16 Division 2 Championship against Inniskeen in the final in Aughnamullen. Well done and a massive congratulations to the girls team and management in a superb 3-6 to 2-5 win in inclement weather and making a brilliant comeback in the second half. Despite playing the first half against the strong wind, Scotstown started strongly and were 0-4 to 0-1 ahead after 15 minutes with fine points from play by Katie McCormick, Ellie Graham, and Sarah McCormick, and a well placed point from free by Ellie Graham. However this was the last score by Scotstown during the first half and Inniskeen took advantage of the wind to take a significant lead at half time after scoring 2 goals and 3 points making the score 0-4 to 2-4. Scotstown started strongly and making good use of the wind advantage reduced the deficit to 3 points after a superb goal by Sarah McCormick Within 2 minutes Scotstown were just a point behind with well placed points by Eadaoin Gallagher and Katie McCormick. Inniskeen responded to Scotstown’s pressure and scored a point on the 12 minute mark. The next 10 minutes were tense as Scotstown continued to press while Inniskeen looked dangerous on the break, but no score occurred until a brilliant strike by Emily Mooney hit the back of the net and Scotstown took the lead again. Within a minute Emily Mooney scored another goal, to give Scotstown a 4 point lead with 2 minutes of normal time remaining. Inniskeen put on the pressure which ensured a nail biting end to the final, but the Scotstown team showed resilience to defend their lead and secure the Under 16 Division 2 Championship trophy with a scoreline of 3-6 to 2-5. Well done and a massive congratulations to the team and management on a superb win and successful season. Hard luck and commiserations to Inniskeen. Well done to our U14 Division Scotstown A girls team who defeated Sean McDermotts at home in the Under 14 Division 1 Championship Shield Semi Final on Saturday last. They next play O’Neills Shamrocks this Saturday 14th October in the Under 14 Division 1 Championship Shield Final at 11:00am. We wish them all the best in the Final. The Under 14 Scotstown B team had no games in the past week. They next play in the U14 Division 3 Championship Semi Final.

On Monday 16th October our Under 17 Scotstown A side play Castleblayney in the Semi Final of the Under 17 Division 1 Championship at 7:30pm in Emyvale.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €11,700!!

In the October 4th draw there was no Jackpot winner. Numbers drawn on the night were 16, 21, 25, 27. There were NO Match 3 Winners tonight. We had 3 Lucky Dip winners who win €50 each – Michelle McCarey, Evelyn Treanor and Damian Martin. Congratulations to all our winners! The Scotstown GAA online Lotto Draw takes place every Wednesday at 8:30pm with last entries at 8pm. The draw is conducted on-line and is fully automated using secure facilities. There are 4 numbers to choose from a range of 1 to 31. Match the 4 numbers to win the Jackpot of €11,700. If no jackpot winner €200 is rolled over to the following week. Also if there is no jackpot winner there will be lucky dips. Next draw is Wednesday October 18th at 8:30pm.

Health and Wellbeing – Scotstown GAA awarded Silver Healthy Club
Well done to our Health and Wellbeing Officer Bernie Sherry and everyone else involved in Scotstown GAA being awarded the Silver Healthy Club Award! The club will be officially recognised as a Healthy Club at a special recognition event in Tyrone GAA Centre, Garvaghey on Tuesday 17th October from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Scotstown GAA continues this year with its Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve.
As we now enter the autumn months and the football championships are currently running, we will be implementing Healthy initiatives soon and will update everyone as these happen.

Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others
Gaelic For Mothers & others continues every Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in Kilmore. All welcome to come along. Great way to meet new ladies and catch up with a bit of fun. As there is no competition for the group there is no pressure to attend every week. You can join in at any stage and come when it suits you. You need to be over 25 and living in the parish. Why not come all and give it a go!!
