Disability Inclusion Training Workshop: Monday 13th February 6:30pm – 9:00pm

Monaghan Sports Partnership is linking up with Cara to facilitate a Disability Inclusion Training Workshop online on the 13th of February. This is a 2.5-hour workshop from 6:30pm – 9:00pm 

This workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and ideas on how to adapt and modify your sport, physical activity or physical education sessions to make them more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities.

Attendees will be engaged through interactive group work, theory content and will be introduced to adaptation tools which will be applied to a variety of games and activities on how to make these inclusive for all ability groups. On completion of the workshop all participants will receive a Cara Certificate of Attendance endorsed by Sport Ireland, a resource manual and a games booklet full of fun inclusive activities.

The cost of this workshop is €15 per person and is heavily subsidised by Monaghan Sports Partnership.

Community Walk Leader Training Workshop: Saturday 18th February 10:00am – 4:00pm

Monaghan Sports Partnership is delighted to work with FitWalk Ireland to facilitate Community Walk Leader training on the 18th of February at The Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan town.

Training starts at 10am sharp on Saturday and finishes at 3:30 – 4pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Walking Leader Training is primarily aimed at people wishing to lead a walking group or promote walking in their community or workplace. The course comprises of 1 day of training.

Course content:

• Physical activity guidelines for adults and how they relate to walking

• Structuring a walking session

• Creating a walking programme suitable for people of different fitness levels

• Advice on issues such as posture, technique, stretching, intensity, clothing, etc.

• Safety issues and risk assessment

• Practical walking sessions covering a stroll and a faster paced walk

The training involves outdoor practical sessions, please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Physical Literacy Workshop: Tuesday 21st February 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Sport Ireland Coaching has developed this course to give participants the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of physical literacy. Physical literacy is the foundation for lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity.

This is an interactive 2-hour workshop which will enable participants to:

(1) Outline the origins, definition, elements, relationship between the elements and importance of physical literacy

(2) Explain whether individuals can be described as ‘physically literate’ and whether physical literacy can be assessed.

Coaching Children Workshop Series: 4 Workshops Tuesday 28th February – Saturday 11th March

Sport Ireland Coaching have developed this Coaching Children Programme to provide coaches and volunteers with a basic understanding of children’s sport and physical activity and best ways to optimise children’s enjoyment, participation and positive outcomes. Coaching Ireland have developed 4 modules, specifically to provide a better understanding of children’s sport and physical activity and best ways to optimise children’s enjoyment, participation and positive outcomes. The concepts of Physical Literacy and Holistic Development run throughout the series of workshops and will be covered in detail.

Workshop 1: Coaching Children Successfully in Sport – An Introduction for Coaches (Online 28th February 6:30pm – 8:30pm)

Workshop 2:  Child-Centred Coaching – Understanding Child Development & Learning and its Impact on How We Coach (Online 7th March 6:30pm – 8:30pm)

Workshop 3:  Developing Physical Literacy through Sport 1 – Coaching Children to Move (In-person 11th March 10:00am – 12:00pm @ Sean Mc Dermotts GAA Complex)

Workshop 4:  Developing Physical Literacy through Sport 2 – Coaching Children to Think (In-person 11th March 12:00pm – 2:00pm @ Sean Mc Dermotts GAA Complex)

Coaching Teenage Girls In Sport Workshop: Monday 6th March 6:30pm 9:30pm

The Coaching Teenage Girls in Sport Workshop is designed specifically to support coaches of girls 12-17 years of age. The workshop will help enable coaches to create a positive experience of sport and physical activity for girls in their formative years. Participants will learn ways to enhance the environment where girls can enjoy their sport leading to a positive experience of being involved with sport in their club. This will then aid in retention within their given sport.

This workshop is targeted at coaches, volunteers, committee members, and any others involved in female participation across all sporting types, in particular the club structure. On completion of the workshop, coaches will receive a certificate of attendance from Sport Ireland.

 

Key Learning Outcomes of workshop:

 

  • Gain an understanding of the relationship between sports participation and physical/mental health for adolescent girls.
  • Identify the key reasons why girls engage in physical activity and sport and why they drop out.
  • The importance of fun and informal participation can have teenage girls
  • Understand the importance of communication (coach to player and player to player) in retaining girls in sport.
  • Raise awareness around the effect’s puberty can have in the teenage years.
  • Identify the role of actual competence and confidence for engaging girls in sport and physical activity.
  • Examine coaching practices and communication that build’s autonomy, confidence, and belonging in girls across team and individual sports.
  • Designing club structures and culture that encourages and caters for relationship building and continuing participation in the club.
