Mick Farrell Memorial Tournament: We look forward to hosting 16 U-10 teams for the second Mick Farrell Memorial Tournament at Gavan Duffy Park this Saturday, August 26, from 10am. All support would be appreciated on the morning.

Summer Camp: Our 2017 Monaghan Harps Summer Camp was a great success last week, with a record 130 boys and girls attending. With the weather on our side for most of the five days, we enjoyed a busy week of football, hurling, handball and music at Gavan Duffy Park. Each participant received Harps goodie bags on Friday, while there was also a welcome return of the ice-cream van! Thanks to everyone who had the pitches and club grounds in great condition, to Neil McAdam for attending on Friday to make the presentations, to Una Forde for her work in preparing for the camp and to Conor Forde and all the coaches involved for a job well done. Thanks also to Shane Smyth, who passed on the baton as co-ordinator after three successful years.

Seniors: It’s a busy week in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League, which started with a home game against Ballybay last Saturday. We led throughout the first half, with points from Fearghal McMahon, Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Gary White, Michael Galligan and Shane Smyth leaving us 0-6 to 0-4 up at the interval. We only managed a point apiece from Nicholas Treanor and Fearghal in the second half, however, with a string of converted frees earning Ballybay the win on a 0-12 to 0-8 scoreline.

Team and scorers: Éimhín Morahan; Mustafa Gamal, Conor Galligan, Niall Hahessy; Thomas Croarkin, Neil McAdam, Nicholas Scott; Aodhán Óg McAnespie (0-1), Stephen Driver (Capt.); Shane McMahon, Gary White (0-1), Dean Fanning; Michael Galligan (0-1f), Shane Smyth (0-1), Fearghal McMahon (0-3, 2f).

Subs: Nicholas Treanor (0-1) for Fanning (inj., 28 mins), James McKenna for Croarkin (46).

This weekend’s game in Donaghmoyne has been switched to Saturday at 6.30. We have been drawn to play Castleblayney in Round 2B of the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship, which is due to be played in Inniskeen on Saturday week (September 2) at 7.30.

Minors: Our minors faced Latton in the semi-finals of the Maguire Transport Division Two Championship in Threemilehouse on Tuesday, August 15. Our lads started brightly, with Ben Kearns-Flynn, Thomas Croarkin and Conor McCrystal on target, but we missed some chances to stretch our lead. Points from James Bourke and Ethan Murphy made it 0-6 to 0-4 in our favour, only for Latton to hit the last three points of the first half. Latton took charge with a brace of goals in the third quarter and despite points from Conor and Thomas, our lads couldn’t get back into the game and ended up losing out by 2-12 to 0-11.

Team and scorers: Dylan McAree; Zach Mallen, Killian Conlon, Anthony Greenan; Nathan O’Donoghue (0-1), Niall Ward, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh; Lochlainn Power, Aidan Burns; Oisín Fagan, Conor McCrystal (0-2f), Ethan Murphy (0-1); James Bourke (0-1f), Ben Kearns-Flynn (0-2), Thomas Croarkin (Capt., 0-4, 3f).

Subs used: Conor Devlin, Adam O’Neill.

U-16: Our U-16s booked their place in the final of the Division One league with a hard -earned win away to Castleblayney last Thursday. Dylan Ballantine, Terence McDonald, Oisín Fagan and Ógie Ó Dufaigh were on target for our lads in an even opening quarter and although Blayney hit the only goal of the first half, points from Dean Doherty, Dylan and Ógie kept our lads within two at half-time (1-7 to 0-8). The Harps started the second half strongly with a goal from Luke Coyle and points by Conor Devlin and Ógie, before Deivydas Kaklauskas came off the bench to find the net. Blayney rallied to go 2-13 to 2-10 up, but our lads finished on the front foot, with 1-1 from Lochlainn Power and a point each by Ógie and Oisín securing a 3-13 to 2-13 win. We await play-offs to find out our opponents in next month’s final, but in the meantime, we host Carrickmacross in the U-16 Division One Championship semi-final next Monday (August 28) at 7pm. All support welcome.

Team and scorers: Shay Cooney; Andrew Lyden, Killian Conlon, James McKenny; Stephen Ward, Conor Devlin (0-1), Tiarnán O’Rourke; Lorcan O’Rourke, Lochlainn Power (1-1); Oisín Fagan (0-2, 1f), Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (Capt., 0-4), Dean Doherty (0-1); Luke Coyle (1-0), Dylan Ballantine (0-2), Terence McDonald (0-2).

U-14: Our U-14 Division Five team are away to Carrickmacross in the League Cup semi-final next Tuesday (August 29) at 6.45. The Division One Shield Final against Magheracloone is due to be played on Saturday week (September 2).

U-12: Our U-12 teams both hosted Carrickmacross last Saturday. Our Division One team, minus a few key players, lost out, but our Division Five team claimed a good win, with Oisín Treanor, Morgan Coyle, Eoin Sheridan, James Gunn, Kyle Cooney and Julian Coyle all among the scorers.

Tournaments: We competed in Errigal Ciarán’s Myles McCann Tournament in Ballygawley last Saturday. We played some great football to qualify from our group with two straight wins over the host club and another Tyrone side, Killyclogher. We were then edged out by 0-8 to 0-6 in a Cup quarter-final against Galbally, who went on to reach the final. Luke McManus caught the eye with some great points in all three games, while Gary Devlin, Kevin Moran, Jake McConnon, Shea Swift, Josh Kelly and Dáire Sheridan were also on target. We were well represented on the day by Gary Devlin, Mark McManus, Jordan Crampton, Kevin Moran, Jake McConnon, Shea Swift, Josh Kelly, Dáire Sheridan and Luke McManus. Thanks to Errigal for the invitation. Our U-14s are due to compete in a tournament in Cullyhanna this Saturday.

Hurling notes:

Juveniles: Underage coaching and games continues every Sunday at 12pm in Rooskey.

U-12: We travelled to Keady on Monday evening for the last round of the league, where a big travelling support cheered on Jim and his charges. After a slow start where Keady built up an 0-8 to 0-2 lead we settled into the game and indeed the game was score for score from then on. Seán Callan, Ethan Ballantine and Oisín Connell were our key marksmen, while Jack McDonald and Oisín Murray worked tirelessly throughout. Oisín McPhillips and Oisín Reilly shared the responsibility of net minding in either half and excelled in their performances. There were also huge efforts from Matthew McGuinness, Rylan McCooey and Conor Brennan. Unfortunately, we fell short on a 0-13 to 0-7 scoreline but credit must be given to the whole squad and management for an excellent display and indeed an excellent league campaign to date which started as far back as May 8 with a great win over Carrick.

U-16: We hosted Carrickmacross on Monday last for the championship semi-final. Although missing a few squad members, it’s fair to say that the whole team put in a battling effort. Aaron Treanor put in a sterling performance in goals with his accurate puck-outs regularly finding their man to put us on the front foot. Oisín Fagan led the full-back line, flanked by Ruairc Healy and Luke Coyle. Liam Conway and Conor Devlin (capt.) played either side of Lochlainn Power in a strong half-back line. Niall McKenna and Daragh Murray continuously put the opposition on the back foot in midfield. Aidan McKenna scored some crucial points and showed great stick work as the hard hitting Ógie Duffy prevailed at centre-forward, with Stephen Ward and Seán Treanor also working tirelessly. Tristan Moyna finished excellently to score our goal with Fintan Keogh out in front and winning his own ball to help bring Tristan into the play. Well done to the team and to their management of Adrian Dalton and John Hahessy and hard luck on losing out on a place in the final on a 1-8 to 2-10 scoreline.
