AGM

On Friday night last our AGM took place in the clubs complex. The proceedings were opened with the review of the previous minutes and the Secretaries report for 2016. As usual this was a comprehensive review of the highs and lows of what was a rollercoaster season. Conor McElvaney delivered the detailed analysis of the clubs activities with his normal aplomb. It was a year of nearly made it , six finals, one trophy and the apprehension and excitement of doing it all again next year in the junior ranks.

Gabriel Bell, Juvenile Club Secretary , was next to deliver his annual synopsis of the season. While trophies evaded us this year at all levels. None more so than at minor level with two hugely entertaining finals against Latton. These players suffered heartache on both occasions but they will bounce back wiser and stronger in 2017. All fundraising and coaching activities during the year were recalled by Gabriel and it was noted that our club would play a part in the Feile ’17 competition when it comes to the county next year.

The treasurers address , by Mary Farrelly, showed the accounts were in a strong and healthy state, however this was only through the endeavours of the hardworking committee and sub-committee personnel. The big success of the year was our Monster Prize Draw which generated incredible revenues and will help to complete the new dressing development. On a more sombre note, Mary Farrelly, announced that due to work commitments she was not seeking re-election to position but she would remain available to the executive committee. We would like to thank Mary for her tireless work during year and wish her well. Her replacement, an old hand at the job , Mary Mc Connon, will be more than capable of keeping the purse strings good and tight .

Finally our chairman, Sean McElvaney addressed the membership. The theme running through his report was that of club working in unity for the greater good. He outlined the effectiveness of all the volunteers who assisted in all the jobs both big and small. He also remarked how there was a new generation of members who took to the roads to sell the draw tickets. He said their resolve was remarkable and that they were definite signs of them being ‘PJ’ prodigies. The club development plans were discussed and a definite path is being etched out to continue to make the club successful. Although the silverware was in short supply, both the chairman and the team management, could not praise the senior team squad highly enough for their commitment , dedication and spirit during the season. While there maybe an absence of cups and shields there was certainly an abundance of young men steadfast in their approach to bringing success to their club in the future. On a passing note, the chairman, acknowledged the recent death of a footballing legend, Mr. Joe Lennon. In 1969 Joe’s services were engaged by the late Eddie McCarron to coach the senior team. It was an unbelievable achievement for a rural club to secure the services of an all-Ireland wining footballer as a coach during that era. May he rest in peace.

The club officers and committee members for 2017 are as follows: Sean McElvaney, Conor McElvaney, Mary Mc Connon, David Treanor, Gabriel Bell, Adrian Forde, Noel Rice . Keith Woods , James Treanor, Derek McMahon, Mary Farrelly, Peter Sherry, Aine Kieran, Brian McPhilips, Pearce Murphy, Stephen Hagan
