Seniors: We host Ballybay in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League this Sunday at 12.30pm. As well as continuing our bid for a semi-final place, this will mark the first senior game since the completion of the roof on our stand at Gavan Duffy Park. All support welcome!

Fun Day: Our Family Fun Day drew a great crowd to Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday. A very entertaining day featured a variety of races and competitions for all ages, as well as our first Mick Farrell Memorial Tournament. We then got to the second annual Great Harps Balloon Race, where Hugh Coyle and co. released hundreds of green and white balloons, one of which has already been found in Touquin, France! The club remained busy for the screening of the All-Ireland final replay. Anyone who finds a balloon and code is asked to email Pro.monaghanharps.monaghan@gaa.ie (closing date: November 1). Well done to Ethan McCaffrey, who won the first iPad for selling the most balloons. Thanks to everyone in the club who supported the day and sold balloons, particularly the juveniles, who put in a great effort, and the organising committee, led by Jimmy Croarkin. Please make sure that all balloon cards are returned to Jimmy ASAP and that juveniles’ full cards include sizes for the new Harps O’Neills training tops.

U-10: The inaugural Mick Farrell Memorial Tournament was a great exhibition of U-10 football in perfect conditions at Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday, October 1. The Harps were joined by fellow Monaghan clubs Scotstown, Truagh, Carrickmacross and Clones in the Cup, along with Cavan sides Cootehill Celtic and Mullahoran and Pomeroy from Tyrone. Meanwhile, in the Shield, the Harps competed with Truagh, Emyvale, Drumhowan, Seán McDermotts, Aghabog and Mullahoran. Unfortunately, we didn’t advance from a competitive Cup group with Truagh, Carrickmacross and Cootehill, while a win over Truagh wasn’t enough in the Shield, as Aghabog and Emyvale progressed. The Cup semi-finals saw Scotstown and Pomeroy get the better of Cootehill and Carrickmacross, while the Shield semis produced wins for Drumhowan and Seán McDermotts at the expense of Emyvale and Aghabog. A well-matched Shield Final saw Drumhowan run out winners against the Seáns, before Scotstown impressed in their Cup Final victory over Pomeroy. Thanks to all our referees, officials and helpers on the day, all the teams and mentors who travelled, Colm and Audri Herron of the Hillgrove Hotel for their sponsorship and Adrian Gunn and all involved in organising the tournament. The naming of the tournament in memory of Mick Farrell was a fitting tribute to one of the club’s great servants and we were delighted to have many members of the Farrell family present on the day, with Marie making the presentations to the winning captains. This brought the curtain down on the year for our U-10s and the Saturday-morning training. Thanks to all our coaches for their efforts with our youngest players.

U-13: We will compete in the Under-13 Super Touch floodlit blitz in Cloghan next Monday night, October 10.

Cumann na mBunscol: The local St. Mary’s Boys School team have qualified for another county final, where they will take on Castleblayney. Check online for fixture details.

All-Ireland final: Our draw for All-Ireland final replay tickets was won by Mel McMorrow, Paddy Donnelly, Lorcan McAdam and Pádraig Callan. Thanks again to the many club members and supporters who joined us in the clubhouse for the replay.

Know Your Sport: There are now six joint-leaders in our sports prediction competition. Paul Fay, Adrian Gunn, Hugh Moyna, Jim Fanning, Anne McManus and Jonathan Browne all have 12 points, with the Airtricity League and the Formula 1 Championship yet to be completed.

Get well soon: All at the club wish Ryan O’Neill a speedy recovery from the collarbone injury he suffered last weekend.

U-15 Floodlit Competition: We successfully competed in the U-15 floodlit competition in Cloghan on Monday evening last. After overcoming Cootehill and Castleblayney in the group stage, we then defeated Cootehill in the final. Well done to the squad and management.

Squad: Aaron Treanor, Lochlainn Power, Killian Treanor, Niall Mc Kenna, Aidan McKenna, Emmet Walshe, Lee Treanor, Evan Meighan, Conor Devlin, Kacper Ostrowski, Daragh Croarkin, Tristan Moyna, Paul Maguire, Stephen Ward, Darragh Murray.

U-16: Our U-16s will host Castleblayney in their championship semi-final this Saturday, October 8, at 12pm.

Minors: We contested the minor championship final against Carrickmacross last Saturday in Clontibret. Conditions on the day allowed for an open contest between the teams and it was ourselves that started the better as Aidan Burns opened the scoring. Two goals by Kieran McQuaid gave us a five-point half-time lead (2-6 to 0-7) but this didn’t tell the full tale of an evenly-contested half. The pick of the first-half scores came via a superb pass from Lochlainn Power which Nathan O’Donoghue converted on the turn. The second half started much like the first, with the teams trading points before a Carrick goal in the 50th minute drew them level. The remaining ten minutes were tentative with neither team wanting to make a costly error. This resulted in only one score for each team during the closing stages to leave it a draw at full time on a 2-9 to 1-12 score line. The replay is fixed for Saturday, October 15 at 2.30pm with a venue yet to be confirmed. Next up, however, is a home fixture against Cootehill in our Ulster league quarter-final this Sunday, October 9, at 2.30pm.

Team & scorers: Cillian Sherry; Conor Duffy, Dylan McAree, Anthony Greenan; Emmet Walshe, Cathal Power (0-1), Tommy Croarkin; Niall McManus (0-1), Aidan Burns (0-4); Mark Murphy, Remy McKenna (0-1), Nathan O’Donoghue (0-1); Lochlainn Power, Kieran McQuaid (2-1), Stefan McQuaid; Luke Mulligan, Seán Conway, John Lowry.
