Currin Club Notes

September 2nd, 2016

Lotto:

There was NO WINNER this week (draw of Sunday the 28th)! Numbers drawn were; 11, 17, 20 and 28.

But, luckily for everyone, that just means the jackpot is now €5,700!!

Next draw is Sunday the 4th in Connolly’s Bar and lottos are available from the usual sellers/spots. If you don’t shoot, you won’t score; buy early and often!!

Seniors:

Inniskeen travelled to Scotshouse on Sunday last for an early afternoon throw-in. Played in beautiful sunshine, the visitors got a dream start, walking a goal in with their first attack. Currin rallied, with Stephen Smith in irresistible form upfront, but 3 further soft goals punctuated the half to leave it Currin 0-8 Inniskeen 4-6 at the break.

Currin upped their work rate after the restart and a sublime Niall Mc Entee goal threated to make things interesting. However, scores were more or less traded after that and it finished Currin 1-13 Inniskeen 4-10.

Team and scorers; Fergal Connolly 0-1, Colm Mc Caffrey, Paddy Mc Dermott, Ben Clerkin, Dara Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Cian North, Dick Clerkin 0-1, Ciaran Mc Caffrey 0-1, Enda Mc Caffrey 0-2, Stephen Smith 0-9, Jason Mc Kiernan 0-1, Niall Mc Entee 1-1, Damien Connolly, Hughie Reilly. Sub used; Paul Rudden.

Its eyes forward now towards the IFC QF v Rockcorry next Sunday the 4th at 1:30 in Smithboro. Bodies were rested v Inniskeen and others got more valuable game time, plus no fresh injuries were picked up; so here’s hoping the team is set up now for another big Championship performance!

Youths:

U14s: Patrick Emmetts took on Clones for the fourth time this year in the SF of the Div 3 Shield on Saturday last, and they served up a classic encounter in terms of excitement, intensity, entertainment and not least controversy. Having turned around a 6 point deficit in the second half, Patrick Emmetts looked to be won and done, but in Shakespearean style, Clones plundered a goal in the 5th minute of injury time to nick the win by a single point. Many in the crowd had Patrick Emmetts actually winning by a point, but that didn’t tally with the referee’s account. Best of luck to Clones now in the Final v Clontibret. U12s: Currin travel to Blackhill on Saturday morning to take on Killanny in the Shield Final. Bus leaves the village at 9:30 and is expected back at about 1. All support is obviously appreciated!

U8s: Currin 8s took part in the latest Go Games blitz on Saturday last when they travelled to Emyvale.

County Matters:

Good luck to Ellen and the Monaghan Ladies in the All Ireland SF v Cork on Saturday!
