ONE-WALL HANDBALL
Last weekend saw handballers from all over the country converge on
Loughmagrory for the lough Wallball showdown
240 handballers, 336 matches, “Wally Amaro” world one wall champion
made a fantastic weekend of sport and coupled with the hospitality of
the Loughmagrory club a great family outing was had by all
A great representation was made from monaghan in players Paul Cassidy
(silver masters), Pete Larkin (masters), Padraig McGeough (men’s
challenger), Aidan McGeough (13&U), Fergal McGee and Sean Callen
(11&U)
Fergal McGee opened the monaghan challenge on Friday evening with a
superb first round win setting him for quarter finals on Saturday.
Aidan McGeough was first up on Saturday morning in the 13&U with a
tough draw sending him into the shield after a fine display. Sean
Callen opened with a win to see him advance to a semi. Paul Pete and
Padraig waited as the juveniles went through their rounds. Fergal was
back in action at 2pmdisplaying excellent calm and composure to come
from behind to advance to the finals of the 11&U shield final in a
thrilling game of wit with Sean advancing to the final of the 11&U
cup. Padraig was next up clearing a path to the men’s challenger semi
final. Paul lost his opening match but by the end of the day was set
for a silver masters final on Sunday, Pete played after a waiting game
but his best didn’t justify the end result going out. Padraig finished
the day with his semi final played at 9.30pm against local competition
which proved vital edging him out
but all looked promising from the monaghan camp with three finalists
for Sunday and a lot of experience gained.
Fergal McGee was first up on Sunday’s list of finals and no better
performance could have been asked of the 10 year old in his first one
wall final loosing out to Loughmagrorys Eoin Donaghy in thriller in
court 4 score 16-13
Paul Cassidy’s final was next on the agenda court.3 against Kenny
Curran of Loughmagrory who showed home advantage was a major factor
winning 12-9
Sean Callen finished the monaghan challenge with a meeting on court.1
against kilkenny’s Kyle Jordan who from the serve made things
difficult with Sean loosing 21-9
All competitors would like to thank the Loughmagrory club for their
hospilality over the weekend
