Faughs Friday Walking Club: Castleblayney Faughs as part of their 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, want to extend their healthy club initiative and enrich the lives of every member of the local community. One such initiative is a walking/social activity which is planned to commence on FRIDAY, 20th MAY 2016 at 11.00am in St.Mary’ s Park, to be followed by a social ‘cuppa’ in the Club Rooms. The only cost involved is the payment of the Club’s Annual Social Membership, which ensures every person is covered by Insurance. You are earnestly encouraged and welcome to join this club activity and meet and chat with old and new friends.

Breakfast Morning: Our annual Breakfast Morning takes place on June 5th in Iontas from 9am-12pm. Its the perfect opportunity to fill the bellies before you cheer on Monaghan in their opening Ulster Championship game. Our Senior players will be serving breakfast on the morning. We hope to see you all there.

Senior Championship: Sunday saw us travel to Scotstown to take on Truagh in the first round proper, it was a lovely summers evening for football but unfortunately we could produce the required performance to emerge with a win. We were level after fifteen minutes before Truagh seize the upper hand coming into half time when they scored the first goal of the game to lead 1-7 to 0-5. The second half started with us gaining plenty of possession but some wayward shooting including a missed penalty followed by second Truagh goal killed off the game , in fairness the lads kept plugging away but it was all in vain as Truagh ran out winners on a score line of Truagh 2-16 Faughs 0-11. We have this weekend off before we have a Star match against Monaghan Harps on Sunday 29th of May with a throw in time of 2pm.

Membership: Following on from our very successful registration day, the Club will now be following up with any members who have yet to pay their membership fee, we would ask all Club Members to pay their Memberships over the next few weeks. Membership fee: Family-€50, Adult-€30, Child-€20 and can be paid to Paddy Conlon, Stephen Dignam, Sean Mc Donald or Melissa Conlon.

Know Your Sport: Scarens won the first event on the “Know Your Sport” fixtures this week; if you were lucky enough to have them then you earned yourself a 175 points. Next event is the Monaco Grand Prix which is on the 29th of May; Louis Hamilton is the favourite for the event with another 175 points on offer.

Under 8 Boys: The Under 8 Boys have Go Games acquitted themselves very well last Saturday morning in Cloghan with two teams the boys showed some nice skills and

scored some lovely points. Well done to all the coaches and the players. Training continues this Thursday at 6pm.

Under U12 Boys: On a very hot Saturday afternoon the Faughs U12’s travelled to Carrickmacross for the Double header, in the Division 1 and Division 5 competitions. First Up was the senior team, in the Div1 encounter. Carrick started quickest and were 1-1 to no score in front after a few minutes. The Faughs lads then settled, with the introduction of young Nathan McArdle providing a platform for the Faughs to gain momentum. Playing some excellent football, the Faughs found their rhythm and drew level at 1-1 to 0-5, with some excellent scores from Thomas Hughes, Conor Ruddy, Ultan Mc Mahon and Kevin Flanagan. Then came a period of dominance for the young Faughs lads just before half time, where they rattled in two excellent goals from Kevin Flanagan and Thomas Hughes, to give the young lads a 2-5 to 1-3 lead. In the 2nd Half Carrick again started brightly, and quickly found the Faughs net, tagging on a further 1-5 without reply to leave the Faughs trailing by 6 at 3-8 to 2-5. The young Faughs lads then displayed true character and a never say die attitude as they rattled in 1-3 to level the game with, with Martin Joyce finding the net after a superb build up. The reintroduction of Niall Rice and the excellent Ultan McMahon playing leaders’ role driving on their team-mates. A goal and a point for Carrick seemed to stem the Faughs revival and push the game in Carrick favour. However this young Faughs side have a never say die attitude and in true character they came storming forward in the dying minutes to salvage the game with an excellent team goal, expertly finished by Niall Rice to leave the full time score Faughs 4-9 Carrick 4-9.

Next up was the Development team, who put in an excellent first half performance, dominating most of the possession, but just not converting into scores. Shay Casey was excellent in defence, and provided the platform, with Sean Bishop and Nathan McArdle for their early dominance. The Faughs led at Half Time 0-4 to 0-3. The move of Ionut Lungu to the forward line paid immediate dividends in the 2nd half has he rattled in 2 superb goals, to open up a 5 point lead for the Faughs, midway through the 2nd half. The Faughs were rocked by 3 very quick fortuitous goals by Carrick in a 3 minute spell, opening up a 5 point lead which they would not surrender. The Young Faughs lads kept battling right to the end, with some fine points by Ben Mallon and Nathan McArdle. Some good saves by the Carrick keeper prevented the young Faughs lads from getting the goal they needed towards the end. Final Score: Carrick 3-8 Faughs 2-6.

Boys Under 14’s: The senior team have a home fixture against Truagh this Saturday in the field with a throw in time of 12pm, the Development team have a bye this week and back in action on 4th of June when we travel to Scotstown.

Boys Under 16: Our Under sixteen took on Carrick last Thursday night in St Marys Park, Carrick opened brightly and led and half time by four points having played with the

breeze, one would have assumed that the Blayney Boys playing with the aid of the breeze would have pulled away in the second half but in fairness to the Emmets they dug deep to keep the game in the melting pot and with time nearly up the Faughs were awarded a penalty which Kian O’Connor coolly converted to leave the final score Faughs 2-12 Carrick 1-12. This Thursday night we travel to Scotstown for a throw in time of 7.45pm.

Girls Under 16: Our U16 Girls played Latton in a home fixture yesterday evening at 7 p.m. Unfortunately the Girls were missing a number of players due to injury but despite this the first half was a very even game with each team matching score for score until the last 5 minutes when Latton scored a goal and a point to go 4 points ahead with a score line of 1-05 to 0-04 at half time. Latton dominated the second half of the game and even though our girls battled hard they were unable to peg the score line back. The final score of the match was 4-06 Latton to 0-07 Faughs. The next U16 Girls game is scheduled for next week with a date and time to be fixed. Please check social media for details of this fixture.

Minor Boys: Our Minor Boys came back to earth with a bump this week as they were well beaten by table toppers Donaghmoyne. They play Patrick Emmett’s at home on May 17th at 7.30pm throw in. This is the last game before the exam break.

Cuil Camps: The Cuil Camp is taking place in St Marys Park starting Monday 11th of July, this year the Monaghan GAA Coaching and Development Team are looking to get the numbers confirmed as early as possible, the children will be getting forms through the schools over the next few weeks and we would encourage parents to return them as early as possible.
