Under 14s: The Clan na Gael under 14s delivered the performance of a lifetime on Saturday last to capture the Division 2 championship final and qualify for Féile for the first time in our history! We controlled the game throughout to beat Scotstown by 2-14 to 1-4 at the end, having defeated Killanny and Blayney in the quarter and semi finals respectively. Cian Watters had a great game in goals, marshalling his defence well, while the kickouts were impeccable. Team captain Sean Callan led by example at the back, giving an exhibition of full back play, ably assisted by Oran McEneaney, who surely must be the most improved player in the league. The tough-tackling Joseph McMahon kept their dangerman quiet, competing well for kickouts also, Conor McKernan continues to show his talent at centre back, while Red Tom McMahon had a fine game on the left.
Andrew Connolly and Eoin Gorman bossed the midfield area with a high energy performance, both had great individual battles and gave everything they had. Liam Murphy had probably his finest hour in a red jersey, getting through a mountain of work, Patrick McMahon gave an exhibition going forward while Cormac McDonnell worked hard, doing well against a good marker. Upfront, Conor Hamilton got his customary goal and linked up well with Jason Irwin who had a great game.
Our Subs contributed handsomely, Shane McCooey played well, having only recently returned from injury, Patrick McGinn strengthened the defence when he came on, Fionn McCabe and Ciaran McBride added to the attacking threat, while Thomas McMahon and Liam Og Mulligan provided energy when introduced. We did it in style, beating 3 very good teams, playing a style of football which was a joy to watch while behaving impeccably throughout.
Massive congratulations to Ciaran, Martin and the brilliant Clan na Gael U14 squad. Many thanks to everyone who came out in such big numbers from Toome and Oram Clubs to cheer on our super wee team last Saturday in Blackhill. Thanks to Blackhill GFC for the use of their great facilities and for having the pitch in such great shape. Huge thanks to Raymond Watters and his staff at Old Coach Inn for the hero’s welcome he gave our lads and the lovely food he put up for us all. We look forward to many more victorious celebrations in your lovely restauraunt!
