U14 Hurling Championship Final Report
The second meeting of the Castleblayney and Carrickmacross U14 teams took place last Monday night the 18th in Oram. Both teams were already aware that a place at Feile na nGael was theirs, but this evening was to gain the County Championship title and for Castleblayney to consolidate their winning ways after a comprehensive victory over Monaghan Harps in the Championship the previous week.
From the outset Mikey Carville made his intention clear to the Carrickmacross defence, scoring a point after his 65 was denied by the Goalkeeper. With the intense pressure that Carrickmacross maintained through the middle section of the half, Pauric Bolger made valiant saves, clearing his line ably supported by the half back line of Zachary McArdle, Senan O’Brien and Paudie Heavin. Thomas Hughes added to Castleblayney’s score line and despite the strength of the Carrick midfield and several shots on goal denied to Castleblayney, there was only a point in it at half-time,with Castleblayney leading, 0-04 to 0-03.
The second half got off to a flying start, with the mentors barely across the field as Thomas Hughes scored an amazing point. Spirits were high amongst the crowd but Carrickmacross capitalised on every opportunity on the field scoring a succession of goals and points to leave the score at 0-05 to 2-05. The experienced Castleblayney players Conall McHugh, Conor Brennan and Ryan McKernan battled against the onslaught and Patrick McGinn maintained pressure on the goalmouth but the luck on the evening was not theirs. Thomas Hughes scored twice more and his peers Joe Carey and Thomas Keenan maintained pressure on the wings in defence, forcing their opponents to fight hard for every sliotar. Leo Moloney and Killian Hanratty piled on the pressure from the wings inward in attack, making swift runs through and around their men, but were also thwarted from scoring.
With two substitutions, Brandon McCague and David Moorhead, the dying moments of the game saw a point and a goal from Carrickmacross to bring the full time score to 0-07 to 3-06.
The disheartened team, led by Caleb McArdle, shook hands with the victors and returned to the Castleblayney Faughs Clubrooms at St. Mary’s park. Surrounded by their teammates, mentors and families and despite feeling deflated, plans were made for the forthcoming visit to Féile. The team will be hosted by Clashmore Kinsalebeg in Co. Waterford and they already have several fundraising events in the pipeline. All eyes return to the league in the short term, with a Match on Monday night against Monaghan Harps.

U-14
Match v East Cavan Gaels was a very one sided affair. East Cavan Gaels fielded with only 11 players. Both sides opening scores were goals in the first 5 minutes but after that Blayney assumed control with five scores shared between Mikey Carville and Conal Mc Hugh. Further scores from Ryan MC Kernan, Thomas Hughes, Leo Moloney, Caleb MC Ardle eased Blayney and they ran comfortable winners.
Next Match v Monaghan on Monday at 7pm in Monaghan.
We are organising two fundraisers for Feile. A bowling tournament and a coffee morning /Cake Sale More details to follow. We are heading to Waterford to Cladhmore/ Kinsalebeg on 17th 18th, 19th June for Feile and with fundraising events coming up we would appreciate all your support.

In the second half Blayney uped their  game with Barney Connor putting over the first point and came back to within one point.
