Seniors:

On Saturday last in our final home game of the season in the Intermediate league, Currin entertained near neighbours Clones in Scotshouse. This was a vital game for us, as a win would guarantee Intermedialte status for next year and everyone duly responded with a super performance. Goals from Enda Mc Caffrey and Jack Mc Carron helped us to a half time lead of 2-4 to 0-3. In the second half great defensive play superbly marshalled by Paul Rudden restricted the visitors to no goals and a further goal from Sean Brady ensured a deserved win. Final score, Currin 3-08, Clones 0-7. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Paul Rudden, Dara Brady, Paddy Mc Dermott, Sean Brady,1-0, Ronan King, Eoin Morrow, Dick Clerkin, Cian North, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Stephen Smith, 0-3, Kieran Kearns, Jack McCarron, 1-4, Enda Mc Caffrey, 1-1. Subs used, Dylan Greenan, Jason

Mc Kiernan, Niall Mc Entee, Damien Connolly, Conor Beattie, Johnny O Connor. We play Cremartin on Sunday next in the final game of the season.

Club Affairs,

A big thank you to Fionnuala and her committee who provided complimentary refreshments at the game on Saturday. This initiative certainly made a huge contribution to our presentation of games throughout the year. On Saturday evening after our game, club members and players enjoyed an excellent evening in Connolly’s where the excellent food complimented the singing skills of the management and players. A few of our fantastic volunteers could not make it but be assured that the opportunity to thank them will not be passed over. It’s been reported that the next round of this ‘X factor’ will take place in ‘An Chead Chumainn’, Newtownbutler, on Sunday evening next where ‘Elvis’ is expected to take centre stage, if not centre field. All welcome.

Wedding congratulations,

You may have missed our ever present umpire on Saturday last but he was other wise engaged celebrating the marriage of his neice, Siobhan Mc Caul to Johnny Moncrief in the ‘4-Seasons’ Hotel, Monaghan. Siobhan is daughter of Sean and Bernie Mc Caul, club members. Best wishes, Siobhan and Johnny from Currin G.F.C.

County Final,

Well done to the Currin GAA representatives who took part in the Juvenile Parade of Champions at the Senior County Final in Clones on Sunday last. The Currin juveniles paraded the Under 12 Juvenile Division 3 Shield, along with amalgamation partners Killeevan, the Under 14’s paraded the Division 5 League Cup and Championship, while the Under 16’s paraded the Division 4 League Cup and Championship also, both with Aghabog amalgamation partners. Our Championship winning Minors, also with Aghabog, are not considered juvenile and were not included in the parade. It is also worth noting that the top scorers in the various championships were included in the county final programmes. In the Intermediate championship our own Jack Mc Carron finished joint top with 3-23 having remarkably played only three and a half games while the other top scorer, Dermot Coyle played six games.

Youth Affairs,

Under 8’s and under 10’s,

These teams combined on Saturday last to participate in a challenge game with near neighbours Redhills. On a beautiful sunny and mild morning they served a very entertaining game. Thanks to Redhills for making the trip. Training for under 8’s and under 10’s continues for at least next Saturday at 9:30.

1916 celebrations,

To commemorate 1916, the GAA through one of its cultural branches Coiste Náisiúnta Scór, would welcome the participation of all Second Level Schools in a competition for newly composed ballads. The ballad should be in a traditional style, accompanied or unaccompanied – as Gaeilge or in English – and can be set to an existing or newly composed air. Ballads should deal with the spirit, legacy, leaders or events of 1916 and/or the growth and development of the GAA over the past 100 years. Entries in audio file format together with the words should be sent by email to scor@gaa.ie on or before the closing date of 12 February, 2016.
