Congratulations: To Neil McAdam and the Monaghan senior footballers, who won a second Ulster SFC title in three years in last Sunday’s final. Neil again played the full game as Monaghan held off Donegal in a thrilling finish, which led to great scenes in Clones and on the big stage in Monaghan town on Sunday night. Thanks to everyone who joined us in the clubhouse on Sunday.

Seniors: Monaghan’s progress in the championship means our next Senior Football League game is as yet unknown. Keep an eye on the notes for details of fixtures in the coming weeks.

Reserves: We qualified for the RFL Division Three semi-final with a hard-earned win away to Clones last Wednesday. We got off to a flying start, with a string of scores including a Francis Lynch goal, and although Clones rallied, Mark McCaughey found the net to keep us ahead. We led by 2-6 to 2-3 at half-time and although scores were harder to come by in the second half, some strong defensive work helped us see out a 2-9 to 2-7 win.

Team: Cónall McKenna; Paul Smyth, Conor Forde; Robbie Moyna (Capt.), Mark McCaughey, Francis Lynch; Turlough Clerkin, Dónal McCarthy; Remy McKenna, Colm Shalvey, James McKenna; Paul Rushe, David Carey.

Subs used: Ahmed Gamal, David Lowry, John Treanor, Paul Byrnes.

We now host Aghabog in the RFL Division Three semi-final next Wednesday, July 29. Castleblayney conceded our Division 1B fixture on Saturday, which means we top the table and go straight through to the final, which is due to be played on Wednesday, August 5.

U-21: Our Under-21s fell to another narrow defeat in last Friday’s Division Two semi-final at home to Carrickmacross. Once again, a very slow start left our lads facing an uphill battle, with an Éimhín Morahan free proving to be our only score of the opening quarter. A brace of points from Francis Lynch and one by Kevin Loughran got the Harps going, but Carrick still led by 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time. Fearghal McMahon and Éimhín led our comeback in the third quarter, during which they hit 1-2 and 0-2 respectively. Kevin, Francie, Fearghal and Éimhín all added points in the closing stages, but our lads fell short on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-12.

Team and scorers: Conor Flynn; Ahmed Gamal, Paul Smyth (Capt.), David Lowry; Francis Lynch (0-3), Niall Treanor, Tiarnán Bramley; Dylan McKenna, Kevin Loughran (0-2); Turlough Clerkin, John Mulligan, Paul Byrnes; John Treanor, Éimhín Morahan (0-4, 2f), Fearghal McMahon (1-3, 0-1 pen).

Subs: Kevin Lyden for N Treanor (inj.), Marc Brennan for Lowry (black card).

Minors: Our minor footballers are away to Truagh in a championship quarter-final this evening (Tuesday) and they have a league game away to Clontibret next Tuesday, July 28.

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers started their Division One League Shield campaign with a narrow defeat against St. Patrick’s in Ballybay last Thursday. This game was closely contested throughout, but St. Pat’s finished strongly to win by 1-16 to 3-7. Our next Under-16 game is at home to Inniskeen next Thursday, July 30.

U-14: A depleted Under-14 Division Four team fell to a heavy defeat away to Seán McDermotts last Saturday. On a day to forget, our only scores came via an Adam McGarry goal and points from Dylan Ballantine, Shay Cooney, Deivydas Kaklauskas and the hard-working Brian McAteer, as a clinical Seáns team put the game beyond our reach.

Team and scorers: Daragh Croarkin; Mujtaba Gamal, Kamile Parszywka, Deivydas Kaklauskas (0-1); Dylan Ballantine (Capt., 0-2, 1 ’45), Brian McAteer (0-1); Adam McGarry (1-0), Shea Treanor, Shay Cooney (0-1).

Sub used: Tyler Murray.

The Division One team return to action with a home game against Latton this Sunday at 12pm.

U-12: Our Under-12 Division Four team had a good win at home to Aughnamullen last Tuesday. Goals by Eoin O’Hanlon and Oisín Reilly and some well-taken points by Luke McManus and Jake McConnon got us off to a good start. Luke, Shea Swift and Cian Bradley added scores before the end of the first 20 minutes, but Aughnamullen hit back with a brace of goals to close the gap to 2-8 to 2-3. Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Eoin, Luke, Shea, Cian and Oisín Treanor all got on the scoresheet in the final 20 minutes as our lads secured a 4-14 to 3-5 win.

Team and scorers: Ethan Ballantine; Mark Clerkin (Capt.), Dáire Conlon; Gary Devlin, Senan Cudden; Eoin O’Hanlon (1-1), Jake McConnon (0-2); Luke McManus (0-6), Cian Bradley (0-3, 1f); Fionán Ó Gallchóir (1-0), Oisín Reilly (1-0).

Subs used: Shea Swift (1-1), Josh Kelly, Morgan Coyle, Oisín Treanor (0-1), Max Mallen, Shane Moran.

All three teams are due to be in action this Saturday. The Division One and Five teams have a double-header at home to Donaghmoyne, with the Division Four lads away to Ballybay.
