Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Final

Currin v Truagh, Sunday, 2.00, Scotstown

The fixtures programme for Monaghan in 2013 comes to a close on Sunday with the IFL Final between Currin and Truagh in Scotstown.

Both teams have already been promoted ahead of this match, bouncing back from last year’s relegation, so the McAviney Cup is the sole prize on offer on Sunday. Truagh have already won the championship and they are bidding for a domestic double, with another final just six days away when they bid for the Ulster IFC against Eskra. The north-Monaghan side have serious winning momentum and feel-good factor at the minute, although they may have one eye on next Saturday’s clash with the Tyrone club, while Currin are fully focused on winning the Intermediate League for the first time.

Truagh lost just one of their league games to finish top of the table, before finishing strongly to defeat Donaghmoyne in the semi-finals. Currin, who were next up in second place, needed extra-time to see off Inniskeen in their last-four encounter. Truagh had a convincing win in their home league game against Currin, who were unable to field for the return fixture and they went on to beat the same opposition in the championship semi-finals.

Truagh will once again be depending on the players who have led them to glory already this year, including Paudie, Daniel and Christopher McKenna, Adam Treanor, Niall Coyle, Niall Feely, Pauric Treanor and the recently-returned Damian McRory. Currin will need big performances from Dick and Ben Clerkin, Jack McCarron, Stephen Smyth, Philip and Gerard O’Callaghan and Ciarán McCaffrey.

Ulster Inter-County Vocational Schools Football Championship Semi-Final

Monaghan v Cavan, Friday, 11.30, Clones

Monaghan will attempt to qualify for the Ulster inter-county vocational schools final when they take on Cavan on Friday morning.

Monaghan had a comprehensive quarter-final win over Down and they will be hoping to overturn last year’s loss to Cavan, who got a bye through the first round this year. Monaghan will be looking to Stephen McCabe, Eugene McGeough, Seán McMahon, Niall Keenan, Dermot Gleeson and James Mealiff to carry on their form from the last game. Donegal await the winners in the final.
