                                                                                  Sean’s Notes

Adult team.  Our adult squad booked their place in the Junior Football League final against Oram on Sunday 3rd November by virtue of their one point semi-final win over Blackhill on Saturday afternoon last. This was always going to be a manly contest given that the teams had drawn both previous league meetings, and with a League Final and promotional prize also at stake on this occasion it was understandable that passion and desire to progress wouldn’t be far from the surface, and so it proved. An earlier downpour had left the usually perfect Blackhill sod resembling a paddy field rather than a football pitch and hindered any hope of a classic ball game as the players struggled with the treacherous underfoot conditions. In the opening half our boys also struggled to contain a dominant home side but they battled hard and stuck manfully to their task forcing the Emerald attack to squander numerous chances to forge ahead, the Blackhill faithful bewildered how the half time score board could read Blackhill 0-3 Seans  0- 4 and with numerical advantage too.   The second half continued in much the same vein with the home side continuing to be guilty of missed chances in front of goal but when a mix up in the Seans goalmouth resulted in a green flag being raised they must have thought the tide was finally turning. A combination of tenacious tackling and the slippery conditions meant score were had to come, but with Damien Larkin’s accuracy from placed balls our boys were back on terms. Veteran Patrick Kieran was sprung from the dugout and in his first taste of action cleverly allowed the ball to run on before deftly picking up and fending off his marker to fire over from an awkward angle. Blackhill had chances to equalise but it was not to be and our boys held on to claim a hard earned victory and their place against Oram in the final. Final score Blackhill 1 – 3 Seans 0 -7

Spraoi Scor. Both St. Michael’s & St. Mary’s National Schools represented our club in Spraoí Scór last Friday night, in Sean McDermott’s complex. Our club had entries in Céile Dancing, Solo Singing, Instrumental Music and Question Time. The standard in each category was very high, and our young competitors performed out of their skins to a packed house. Well done to all who took part, it being a first for some, and congratulations to the Instrumental Group – Aoife Stunton, Colleen McMahon, Lucy McGuinness, Ciaran Maguire & Macdara Treanor – who secured 3rd place.Thank you very much Michele, Paula and Monica, for all your hard work in getting everyone prepared. Our young entrants are a credit to their parents, schools and parish.

Breakfast Morning. Another date for your diary is Saturday 2nd November. From 9.00am to 1.00pm the club are hosting a breakfast morning, come along and see our adult players as they don their chef hats and aprons and provide a breakfast menu more in keeping with a five star hotel than a football club…will they burn the toast????.  It will be an occasion not to be missed. It is also worth highlighting a donation from funds raised will be made to the Donal Walsh # Livelife Foundation…. People may be aware of the Kerry teenager Donal Walsh, who made an impassioned plea for young people to talk about their problems before he died from cancer in May.The 16-year-old wrote an open letter to the media about young people and suicide earlier this year, before appearing on RTÉ’s Saturday Night Show with Brendan O Connor where he spoke about how he was coping with his illness, and encouraged others who are feeling low to talk to someone they trust.  This is one occasion when the team are looking forward to being run of their feet…. Please don’t disappoint them.
