Minors: Our minor footballers contest the MFL Division One Final against championship winners Carrickmacross in Oram at 3pm this Saturday. Best of luck to the team and their management of Brian Lenehan, Michael Buckley and Gary White, who were all involved when we last won the minor league in 2007.

Draw: Time is running out to get your name in the hat for the brilliant prizes on offer in in the ‘Sportspersons Dream’ draw. Ticket sellers are asked to return tickets and money raised to their ‘team captains’ by next Wednesday, October 30. Money raised in this draw goes towards the maintenance and development of facilities at Gavan Duffy Park and we greatly appreciate all support.

Seniors: We fell to a disappointing defeat away to Castleblayney in the SFL last Saturday. A very slow start allowed Blayney to kick four of the first five points, with our only reply coming from Shane Smyth, but scores by Shane, Dean Fanning and Liam Hahessy brought us level by the 20-minute mark. Dean (three) and Shane added points before half-time, which gave us a 0-8 to 0-5 lead. Dean converted a brace of frees after the restart, but Blayney suddenly came to life with three goals in the space of nine minutes. Dean gave us some hope with another pair of frees and Shane Coyle landed a couple of points, but Blayney had six to spare in the end: 3-11 to 0-14.

Team and scorers: Mark Hughes; Gareth Treanor, Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Nicholas Scott; Shane Coyle (0-2), Rónán Garvey, Michael Galligan; Gary White (Capt.), Peter Coyle; Liam Hahessy (0-1), Neil McAdam, Dónal Hahessy; Ashley White, Shane Smyth (0-3), Dean Fanning (0-8, 7f).

Sub: Fearghal McMahon for A White (38 mins).

We are away to Doohamlet in our final-round game this Sunday at 2.30pm, when we need a win to secure home advantage for the semi-final.

Scór: A great night was had by all at the Spraoi Scór held in the Seán McDermotts Complex, Threemilehouse last Friday. The Harps club competed in five competitions with six teams in total participating. The first competition on the night was the Rince Foirne (team dancing) with Órla Corrigan and Áine Aughey bringing home a first-place trophy for their two-hand reel. The next competition was Amhránaíocht Aonair (solo singing) where Aisling O’Riordan won a third-place medal for her performance of ‘The Morning Dew’. In the Ceol Uirlise (group music), we had two entries. First to play were Aisling O’Riordan, Dearbhla Ní Ghallchóir, Helen McCrystal, Rossa Gilsenan and Karen Byrne. The girls had a variety of instruments including flute, banjo, fiddle, button accordion and guitar and they won first place for their beautiful performance.  We also had another Harps group in this competition with Katie Reilly, Órla and Emma Corrigan and Emer McGuinness putting in a strong performance on flutes, tin whistles and fiddles, playing ‘Drops of Brandy’. Next up we had Clara Morgan who won third place with a fine (recitation) of ‘The Referees Prayer’. We finished off a great night for the club by winning a first-place trophy in the Baileád Ghrúpa (group singing) with Karen Byrne on guitar, Rossa Gilsenan on fiddle and Aisling O’Riordan, Dearbhla Ní Ghallchóir and Clara Morgan singing a beautiful sweet version of ‘Seolta Geala’. Comhghairdeas to all the children and mentors who participated. Best wishes also to those who will represent the club in the Scór na nÓg in a few weeks’ time. The bar has been set high.

Congratulations: On behalf of all at the club to the senior ladies footballers on their league success last Saturday.

Hurling:

Minor Championship: Truagh Harps just fell short in the Minor Championship Final Replay. After a bright start, and having much of the possession throughout the match, a number of missed chances were to prove to be their undoing. Similar to the first match, the teams went in level at half-time with 0-6 apiece. Although Truagh Harps took an early second-half lead it was Clontibret who were to emerge victorious, mainly due to their greater ability to take chances, such as the one in front of goal that came their way midway through the second half. From then on Truagh Harps were playing catch up, and just left themselves with too much to do in the end.

Sportsperson’s Dream: Club members are reminded that ticket stubs and payment for this fundraiser should be forwarded to James Greenan as soon as possible.

Ladies: Our senior team defeated Scotstown convincingly in the Division Two League Final last Saturday in Emyvale. The result was Harps 2-12 Scotstown 0-5. The team was Allison Treanor; Gráinne Treanor, Laura McManus, Dearbhla Lenehan; Shauna Hetherington, Orla Whelan, Niamh Maguire; Jennifer Treanor, Yvonne Connell (0-1); Muireann O’Rourke, Eimear O’Rourke (0-4), Emma Clerkin (0-2); Orla Callan (2-2), Sinéad Maguire (Capt., 0-3), Una Rooney; Tessa Fleming, Éadaoin Maguire, Tiarna Lavelle, Aoife Corrigan, Tara Reilly, Hannah Clerkin, Stephanie Keenan, Carla Doherty & Maria Ferguson. Thank you to Brian Lenehan for his help last week in our preparations for the league final, to Catherine Clerkin for first aid on Saturday, to Noel McConnell, Seanine & Tierna Larkin for the food in the Shamrock Bar afterwards and to Eileen McElvaney who managed us on Saturday in David’s absence. Finally, we send get well soon wishes to David from all the senior players and committee. We play in the Reserve league semi-final v Magheracloone this bank holiday Monday, October 28 at Gavan Duffy Park at 2p.m. Arrangements for all players will be sent by text.

Our remaining Minor Division One League fixture is against Scotstown. This game has not yet been fixed. Info on training for minors will be sent by text.

The €30 club tickets for the upkeep & maintenance of the facilities at Gavan Duffy Park, have been distributed for sale amongst all club members. We request all Ladies club players past & present, management, committee members and parents to support this fundraiser. The draw is fast approaching so everyone is reminded to put a final push on selling their allocation of tickets and return money and details for tickets ASAP.

Congratulations to our Spraoi Scór representatives on their great performance last Friday night.
