Doohamlet GFC Notes

Minor League Final:  HEROES ALL. Doohamlet supporters left Shamrock Park Cremartin on Sunday last not disappointed but with an immense sense of pride after witnessing a display of raw courage and no shortage of skill when a panel of only fourteen players against an amalgamated side were pipped in the final minutes of this league final.   With only two of these players overage next year Doohamlet dominated this game from the start and as in the championship decider our lack of numbers showed in the closing stages when our players were clearly fatigued and we had not the luxury of our opponents to bring on fresh legs.

Credit to the referee for getting most of the big calls correct and keeping the lid on a fiery contest.   The large crowd got full value for money with Doohamlet leading at half time and increased their lead to 9 points midway through the second half but missed chances including two penalties and concession of soft goals proved too much in the end and like the legend of the Spartans our heroes eventually fell to a numerically advantaged opponent and our dream died.

These players will learn from these two defeats and no silverware will forge their football education more in the years to come.  Doohamlet GFC can look forward to a number of these players being promoted to our Senior panel and thankfully our future looks bright.

MINOR PANEL:  MJ O’Connor, Mark Connolly, Pauric Malone, Damian Ward, John Duffy, Ryan Ingram, Jamie Walshe, Conor Marray, Barry McGinn, Barry McBennett, Ryan McManus, Nathan Connolly, Matthew Byrne, Jack Ingram.

A Doohamlet Gathering:  With the season drawing to a close Doohamlet GFC have one more social night on Sunday the 27th October in the local hall.  This will be a night of entertainment with a barbeque, bar extension and music by Mr. Music.  Tickets are competitively priced at 10 euro and anyone can pay at the door.  We look forward to an excellent nights entertainment.

Seniors:  Doohamlet travelled to Latton on Saturday evening last with a depleted squad and gave a good account of ourselves in the first half.  Latton got on top in the second period and ran out comfortable winners in the end.  On Sunday next we play our penultimate senior league game when we have Monaghan Harps as visitors to O’Neill Park.

Best Wishes:  To our star minor Barry McGinn who was hospitalised on Sunday evening last after the minor final.  Thankfully after internal bleeding was diagnosed he will make a quick recovery and we hope to see Barry back in the blue jersey next season.

Congratulations:  To Colin Walshe who has been shortlisted along with Sean Cavanagh (Tyrone) and Cian Mackey (Cavan) for the Ulsters GAA Writers Player of the Year award.  Colin has a busy few weeks ahead with the GAA/GPA All Star Awards being held on Friday the 8th November.   We wish him well.

Blotto 21/10:  No Jackpot winner, numbers drawn 4, 7, 5, 6, 3, 1, 2.  Lucky dip winners John McKearney c/o The Spinner; Brian O’Neill, Doohamlet; Deirdre O’Neill c/o Oisin; Mary McEneaney, Corleanamaddy;  Mark Connolly, 2 Cois Locha.  Next weeks Jackpot €8,400.
