U-8’s
The final blitz of the year took place in St. Tiernach’s Park Clones on Saturday last 14th. The blitz was attended by 25 clubs, with 42 teams taking part, with over 450 children playing. Each team played at least 3 games. The blitz was enjoyed by all and thankfully the weather was kind to us. All teams had an opportunity to get their photo taken with the Ulster Championship Cup. Our U-8’s are now finished for this year and it was great to see how much our young players have improved over the course of the year. It is wonderful to note that there are lots of talented young players coming through. “Mol na hóige is tiocfaidh siad” . The club would like to thank the mentors Declan Farrelly, Dermot Farrelly, Padraig Doogan, Declan McConnon, Padraig Duffy, Eddie Kelly and Eamon Mc Keown. We hope to see you all back again next year.

U-16’s
Our under 16 boys had a fantastic win on Thursday evening last in the Division 2 League Final in Emyvale against Cremartin. Playing against a strong wind and rain in the first half they were slow to settle and were 1-2 to no score behind before Paudie Mc Mahon finally opened our account after ten minutes. Cremartin added a couple of points to leave them six points ahead but from there till half time the lads rallied with Cian Conroy, Luke Mc Kenna and Connor Cassin outstanding in defence. Allan Kieran added two points from play and a free before Cremartin got the last score of the half through a David Hanley free to leave the half time score Cremartin 1-6 Magheracloone 0-4.
Allan Kieran scored a great long range point directly from the start to set the tone for a prolonged period of dominance with Liam Óg Murray, Barry Kieran and James Marron causing havoc in the Cremartin defence. Luke Mc Kenna popped up on the edge of the Cremartin square to bury a rebound to the net. Allan Kieran levelled the scores with a pointed free before the move of the match involving Connor Cassin, Allan Kieran & Barry Kieran ended with Paudie Mc Mahon finishing emphatically to the net. This put us in front for the first time but a great effort from Barry Kerr narrowed the gap to two points. Two further scores from Allan Kieran left us four points up with fifteen minutes remaining but from there to the end it was a rearguard effort with Cremartin staging a late rally. A Sean Duffy point from play and two David Hanley frees left the minimum between the sides but the outstanding Jason Goodman, Cassin and Conroy ensured the cup was heading our way. Well done to all the lads on what was a great team effort.

We would urge you all to come out in great numbers to support this gutsy minor team in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. Senior Championship
On Sunday last in very poor weather conditions Magheracloone recorded a win against Doohamlet and securing a place in round 3B of the Senior Football Championship. Magheracloone lead 0-4 to 0-3 at half time with the aid of a strong win but didn’t make full use of the wind. The second half display was much better from the Mitchells but it was a hard fought win and a vast improvement is needed if we are to overcome Harps. Final score Magheracloone 0-10 Doohamlet 0-6. Please come and cheer the seniors on as they take on Monaghan Harps in Iniskeen on Friday 20th at 8:15pm. The winner of this match will advance to the Championship Semi-finals.

Charity Cycle
The big day finally arrived Saturday last, 16th September when 32 brave cyclists left the hills of Magheracloone at 6.30am and headed to the County of the Tribes followed in toe by their bicycles where they were greeted by members from Magheracloone Care of the Aged who had breakfast prepared for the cyclists and backup team which went down a treat. At 9.45am the cyclists took to their bikes and started their 155km trek back to the same hills they left only a few hours earlier. With perfect weather conditions for cycling and averaging 24km/hr they arrived at their first & second pit stop ahead of schedule, Carrickoboyle & Virginia respectively. Again they were greeted by members from Care of the Aged who had soup, sandwiches and other refreshments waiting to recharge the bodies. Back in Magheracloone, a juvenile disco was in full swin. Parents and children enjoyed burgers & hotdogs from the BBQ. At approximately 7pm lead by Ina Irwin & Rory Doogan the cyclists entered the car park at Magheracloone Community Center to rapturous applause by a large crowd of family, friends & well wishers. The historic moment was captured by photographer Lou Metzger which can be seen on the clubs website. The cyclists were welcomed into the centre by local band the ‘Drumlins’ to a rendition of the ‘White & Blue of Farney’ which was apt as also present in the centre were 5 Ulster Tropies including the Anglo Celt Cup and all club representatives on county men’s & ladies teams. Many juveniles & adults alike took advantage and had their photographs taken and got signatures from their county hero’s. After a quick bite from the BBQ and a wash, the cyclists enjoyed a well earned drink from the bar while they reminisced about the days craic and viewed photos and video of the journey from Galway on big screen courtesy of Conor Marron. A large crowd then danced the night away to the Great Pretenders followed by a DJ and a great nights crack was had by all in attendance. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Magheracloone Care of the Aged & Magheracloone GFC Pitch Development Fund. The club chairman would like to thank all the cyclists, in particular Leo Marron who was chief organiser of the cycle, all the people who sponsored the cyclists or donated directly to the event, Magheracloone Care of the Aged, all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the day such a success, members of the sub-finance committee and finally all the people who turned out on the night. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.
