Magheracloone G.A.A.

Lotto. The numbers drawn in the Club Lotto this weekend were 11, 21, 23 and 27. The jackpot was not won and the four winners of the Lucky Dip were John Smith, Castleblayney Road, Ann Reilly, 7, Lisdrumskeagh,  Nancy Dolan, Magheross and Caroline Hughes, Crann Nua. The next draw will take place in the clubrooms on Monday 29th July and the Jackpot will be 3,000 euro.

Pitch Development. The development work continues on the main pitch and the contractor is taking advantage of the good weather to progress the work in a speedy manner. After stripping the top soil and stock-piling it last week, the big machine is now leveling off the new pitch area prior to the laying of the new drainage system.

The executive appeals to members once again to remember that the pitch area is now a “building site” and that it should be treated as such.

The club will continue to post photos and progress reports on the club website and/or the clubs facebook page so members far and near can keep up to date with progress.

Ulster Championship Wins. To the list containing the names of Thomas McDermott  (1979) and James Kieran (1988) can now be added the names of Tommy Freeman and Gavin Doogan from 2013, as winners of Ulster Championship medals in senior football.

All in the club congratulate Tommy and Gavin along with Paul McArdle and Michael Metzger for their magnificent achievement in helping Monaghan gain its first Senior/Minor double since 1930. It is beyond argument that the Magheracloone players had a vital role in the two victories and it was particularly fitting that Monaghan last score came from Tommy Freeman, a committed and loyal supporter of the county team over many years. The  members are very proud of the players from the club and are looking forward to further glory in the coming weeks.

Cul Camp. The annual Cul Camp will be held in Magheracloone next week, starting on Monday, 29th. The stars of tomorrow will get the chance to develop their skills in a fun environment and the club hopes to see some of these young people in future county teams.

Under 8 Coaching. The club would like to thank the Monaghan Juvenile Coaching Staff for sending two coaches to Magheracloone last week for a coaching session with the Under 8 group. The team really enjoyed the session and learned a lot from it.

Minor Victory. The minor team’s game at home to Emyvale on Tuesday 23rd did not take place as Emyvale could not field a team. The points were awarded to Magheracloone.

Under 21 Final. Killanny provided the opposition in the Division Two Under- 21 Final on Saturday.  Magheracloone emerged victorious on a score of 2-11 to 0-12 and thus claimed the Division Two U-21 football championship. Congratulations to the team and to the management team which included two current senior team members, Paudie Finnegan and Damien Freeman.

Charity Cycle. Leo Marron has organised a 150 kilometre Charity Cycle which will be held on Sunday, September 14th.
