Lotto – Results to follow in next week’s notes

Seniors – The Seniors were made to sweat by a determined Rockcorry outfit last Wednesday night before a late brace of points from Aaron McNamara and a Marty McElroy goal sealed a 1-11 to 0-10 win. We had a game last night (Wednesday) against Latton and on Sunday are home to Scotstown at 4PM.

Junior B’s – The Bs are safely through to the championship quarter finals after a good win over Tyholland last Friday. A strong first half showing laid the foundations for a 3-14 to 0-05 win. We face Truagh in the next round at the end of the month.

Junior C’s – The Cs put in gallent effort on Saturday evening before bowing out of the Championship 1-19 to 3-10 to Corduff, a team operating in the league above them. Trialing for most of the game Blayneys young team never gave in and gave Corduff some anxious moments towards the end. There are 2 league games over the coming week, firstly on Friday evening at home to Rockcorry at 7.45PM and next Wednesday we make the short trip to Oram again at 7.45PM.

Club Maith Programme – Last Saturday was a historical day for the Club, with the presentation of the Platinum award in the Club Maith programme to the Club members. Club Maith is a programme run by the Ulster Council which assess a club in the core areas of GAA club activity, i.e. governance, duty of care, community enhancement, culture & heritage, and coaching & games development. The Club were awarded the top Platinum award and become the first Club in County Monaghan and only the second in Ireland to be awarded this prestigious award. More detailed coverage of the presentation can be seen in GAA section of this week’s Northern Standard.

Who wants to be a Thousandaire – On Saturday 8th June 2013, Castleblayney Faughs will host the hugely popular “Who wants to be a Thousandaire” in The Glencarn Hotel. This show has attracted large audiences all over the country over the past seven years. Contestants will be drawn from ticket sales and each contestant will have the opportunity to play for €1000. The show is fully computerised with 50/50,” Ask the Audience” and a brilliant video linked “Phone a Friend”. If chosen to participate, you have the option of taking to the stage to play or nominating someone to represent you on the night. This is an excellent opportunity to put your general knowledge to the test while enjoying the craic and banter of what promises to be a brilliant night.

Minors – The Minors made the shortest of journeys out to Blackhill on Tuesday 30th of April to play Emerald Sarsfields (Combination of Oram and Blackhill). In a very close game the Blayney boys emerged with a narrow win, there was nothing between the teams right up until the end with a late Mark Kelly goal sealing the victory. The boys had a home fixture against Killeevin on Tuesday May 7th, check Website, Facebook or twitter for the result.

Under 16 Boys – The lads travelled to Aghbog last Thursday night to play in their first league match of this year’s campaign, they got off to a slow start and at the start of the second half they trailed by 11 points but then knuckled down and showed great commitment to pull themselves back into the game. They led by a point with a couple of minutes remaining only to be hit with a goal on the stroke of full time to be beaten by two points. This week we play Doohamlet, match date and time to be confirmed during the week.

Under 14 Girls – Team of the week in the Club must surely go to these Girls as they bounced back from their defeat last week against Doohamlet with a very hard earned three point victory over Aghabog. It was clear at training on Saturday morning that the girls were not going to make the same mistakes two weeks in a row and right from the throw in on Monday night the improvements that the girls had made under the watchful eye of Darren, Chloe and Pauline was clear to see. The young Faughs ladies got off to a good start but a strong finish to the first half by Aghabog saw them go in 1 point up, the match ebbed and flowed before a final strong last ten minutes saw Blayney open a 3 point lead. The scenes of joy and pride after the game would do anybody the world of good, well done every player, coach and committee member as this was the first win for a Faughs Ladies team in an official competition. Next up is an away match to Sean McDermotts next Monday 13th of May.

Under 14 Boys – The boys had a challenge game against Toome last Thursday night, they played well in patches and ran out winners in the end. On Monday night we played a good Donaghmoyne side in St Marys Park in the league and while we were happy to be going in at half time on equal terms, the third quarter saw Donaghmoyne physical size count against a very young Faughs outfit. This is definitely a team for the future as they demonstrated some great skills and a real Faughs never say die attitude. There were some excellent performances given by Craig Callan, Jack Callan Joshua Walsh and a very lively Francis McGeough. Training takes place tonight at 6.15pm with the next match down for Saturday 18th of May in St Marys Park at 12pm against Fergal O’Hanlons.

Under 12 Boys – After a very busy few weeks the lads had no games in the last seven days, training takes place in the football field at 6.15 tonight as we prepare for the Under 12’s Finals Day in Cloghan this Saturday 11th of May. The development team are playing Corduff at 1pm while the senior team are in action against Truagh at 2pm. Can we ask as many parents to attend as possible, this is a great day run by the County Board and is well worth coming out too.

Under 10 Boys – Tonight the Boys will travel to Cremartin to play in a challenge game. On Saturday the boys will have training in the field at 10am to 11.15am as they prepare for the next set of Go Games on Saturday 18th of May in Toome at 10 am.

Under 10 Girls – Training will continue on Monday evenings on the Astro Turf at 7pm. Under 8 Boys – Training continues on the Astro Turf this Thursday at 6pm to 7pm and again on Saturday morning in the football field at 10am to 11.15am. Next match for the Boys will be against local neighbours Crossmaglen in St Marys Park on Saturday 18th of May at 10.30am.

Under 6 – Training in Rath Na Og on Thursday at 6pm, all new children and parents are very welcome, the hour is based on developing the children’s agility, balance and coordination while also helping them to interact at a social level.
