Seniors: The senior footballers had mixed fortunes last week in the SFL, winning one and losing one. First up was a narrow (1-9 to 0-11) defeat in Scotstown last Wednesday. We trailed by 1-6 to 0-5 after a first half in which Donal Hahessy was our only scorer and Scotstown added three unanswered points in the third quarter to open up a seven-point gap, but our lads finished strongly in an exciting finish. Dean Fanning, Nicholas Treanor (two), Neil McAdam, Conor Galligan and Donal all took points off our deficit, but it just wasn’t enough to avoid a first defeat.

Team and scorers: Mark Hughes; Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Rónán Garvey, Darren McMahon; Nicholas Scott, Conor Galligan (0-1), David Hughes; Peter Coyle, Gary White (Capt.); Neil McAdam (0-1), Paul Rushe, Shane Coyle; Donal Hahessy (0-6, 2f), Emmett McArdle, Liam Hahessy.

Subs: Paddy Connolly for P Coyle (inj., 24 mins), Nicholas Treanor (0-2f) for S Coyle (H-T), Dean Fanning (0-1) for Rushe (37), Niall Hahessy for McMahon (41).

The lads bounced back with a 2-12 to 1-7 win at home to Carrickmacross on Sunday. Points from Donal Hahessy (two), Niall Greenan and Nicholas Treanor were scant reward for our early dominance, as Carrick struck for a goal to draw level in the 20th minute. Points by Emmett McArdle and Nicholas kept us in touch, before Donal fired to the net to edge our lads ahead by 1-6 to 1-4 at half-time. Gareth Treanor and Dean Fanning hit points in the early stages of the second half and Donal Hahessy added a brace, before Nicholas netted our second goal. Well-taken points from Emmett and Donal rounded off our scoring, while a penalty-save by Conall McKenna kept Carrick at bay.

Team and scorers: Conall McKenna; Rónán Garvey, David Hughes, Niall Hahessy; Gareth Treanor (0-1), Conor Galligan, Aodhán Óg McAnespie; Gary White (Capt.), Neil McAdam; Nicholas Scott, Nicholas Treanor (1-2), Niall Greenan (0-1); Donal Hahessy (1-5, 0-1f), Emmett McArdle (0-2), Dean Fanning (0-1).

Subs: Michael Galligan for Greenan (40 mins), Darren McMahon for G Treanor (inj.), Liam Hahessy for McArdle (both 49), Paddy Connolly for Fanning (inj., 53).

The seniors are away to Ballybay next Wednesday.

Dance: We will be staging a fundraising dance night with music from The Outlaws at the Hillgrove Hotel on Friday, May 24. Tickets, costing €10, are available now from Seán Boyle and other club members as well as local outlets. All support would be very much appreciated.

Reserves: Our RFL Division Three team fell to a six-point defeat despite a decent performance away to a strong Clontibret team last Saturday. Despite starting slowly, we grew into the game and a purple patch led us to a 1-7 to 1-4 half-time lead, with our scores coming from David Loughran (1-2), Conor McCaughey (0-3), Gerard Gilsenan and Dean McMahon. The scores dried up in the second half, when we could only manage points from Gerard, Dessie McGarry and Robbie Moyna, while Clontibret hit another two goals to set up a 3-10 to 1-10 win. Our next scheduled game in this competition is against Currin on May 17.

Team and scorers: Jimmy Croarkin; Gary Trappe, Johnny Sherry, Fionntán Cassidy; Dean McMahon (0-1), Séamus Brannigan, Robbie Moyna (0-1); Conor McCaughey (0-3, 2f, 1 ’45), Dean Treanor; Pat Murphy, Gary Murray, Shea Deeney; David Loughran (1-2), Gerard Gilsenan (0-2), Craig Connolly.

Subs: Dessie McGarry (0-1) for Connolly, Paul Smyth for Deeney (inj.), Anthony Croarkin for Murphy (inj.), Gary Sexton for Loughran.

The O’Duffy Cup team are in Clontibret tomorrow night (Wednesday).

Minors: The minor footballers had a good win away to Scotstown in round two of the league last Tuesday. After building up a sizable lead in the first half, the lads had to hold off a strong comeback from Scotstown, but they held on to win by 3-9 to 2-11. Our minors are away to Emyvale tonight (Tuesday) – please note change of veue. Next Tuesday’s game is away to Truagh.

Under-21s: Our Under-21 footballers are away to Carrickmacross this Friday for a 7.30pm throw-in.

U-16: The Under-16s lost at home to a strong Donaghmoyne team in difficult conditions last Thursday. Points from Remy McKenna, Paul Peppard (two) and Reece Treanor had our lads level at 0-4 each on 20 minutes, but Donaghmoyne then hit 1-2 without reply, before Reece converted a free to make it 1-6 to 0-5 to the visitors at half-time. Our only scores of the second half were two points from substitute Conor Duffy and one from Reece, as Donaghmoyne added a further seven points to win by 1-13 to 0-8. Next up is an away game in Scotstown next Thursday.

Team and scorers: Darragh Hannon; Niall McManus, Evan Cudden, David Lowry; Kyle O’Leary, Cathal Power, Adam Treanor; Aaron Woods (Capt.), Kevin Lyden; Remy McKenna (0-1), Reece Treanor (0-3, 2f), Jack Deery; Conor Flynn, Paul Peppard (0-2), Shane McMahon.

Subs: Dylan McKenna Conor Duffy (0-2, 1f), Ruairí Forde, James Owens, Nathan Mulligan.

U-14: Well done to the Under-14s footballers, who qualified for the Division One championship final with a good win at home to Truagh last Tuesday. The lads led by 3-5 to 1-8 after an entertaining first half and they added another three goals in the second half on their way to a 6-7 to 2-10 win. The final is scheduled for Saturday week against the winners of tonight’s semi-final replay between Emyvale and Killanny. The Division One team also ran out comfortable winners in Clones against the Clones/Currin amalgamation on Saturday.

U-12: Round three of the Under-12 Football Spring Leagues takes place this Saturday, when both of our teams are in Scotshouse to play Clones/Currin. The Zone B game throws in at 12 noon, followed by the Zone A match at 1.15pm.

Hurling: Our seniors continued their winning ways in the Development League with a win away to Castleblayney last Thursday. The Harps were slow to get going in difficult conditions, but after conceding an early goal, they soon steadied the ship and began to exert some control over the game. Even so, wayward shooting restricted the Harps from really pulling away in the first half, which ended 1-3 to 1-1; the scores coming from Frank Burke (1-1), Conor Curley and Brendan McQuaid. The Harps continued to dominate against the wind in the second half, with goals from Alan Lee, Alan Ryan, Brendan McQuaid and Ross Corbett ensuring that there would be no way back for Blayney, who were restricted to two scores in the second half. Final score: Harps 5-5 Castleblayney 2-2.

Scorers: Frank Burke, Alan Ryan, Brendan McQuaid 1-1 each; Alan Lee, Ross Corbett 1-0 each; Conor Curley 0-2.

The first round of the Senior Hurling League takes place this Thursday away to Truagh at 7.30pm.
Congratulations to our U-14s who defeated Carrick by six points in their championship semi-final on Monday night. A great victory for all involved.

With the weather getting (slightly) better at this time of year, all underage hurlers are encouraged to get down to Rooskey on Sundays at 12 noon, where there are a number of coaches involved in ensuring plenty hurling for all age groups every week.

Well done again to our club members involved in the county victory over Cavan in the Ulster Minor Hurling Shield Semi-Final last Friday. This win sees them through to their fourth final in two years against Donegal this Friday at 7.30pm in Enniskillen, with the added incentive of retaining their title.

Congratulations to Maurice McKenna & Úna on the birth of their baby girl Bethany in the past week.

Jerseys: A number of the senior hurlers’ jerseys are missing. Could everyone please check kitbags etc. to make sure they don’t have any of these jerseys.

Saturday morning coaching: Our coaching for Under-10s is up and running and will continue every Saturday morning from 10.30-11.30. Anyone who wants to help out in any way is also more than welcome to get involved. Parents are asked to pay their children’s registration fees as soon as possible.

Harps watches: We are now selling wrist-watches with the Harps crest for €10. Contact Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204 for more details.

County teams: Good luck to Neil McAdam, Conor Galligan and the Monaghan senior footballers in the NFL Division Three Final against Meath at Croke Park this Saturday. Well done to the county minor footballers and hurlers, who both won semi-finals last weekend, and best of luck to both teams in their finals this weekend; both against Donegal in Enniskillen.

The Gathering: We are organising some events for current and former Harps players and members to coincide with the ‘Gathering’ initiative. Anyone willing to get involved can contact any committee member.
