County Seniors

Disappointment for Monaghan in the final of the Mc Kenna Cup last weekend when they were comprehensively beaten by Tyrone. Next Sunday sees the start of the N.F.L with a tough game in Clones against Meath.

Liam Quigley, R.I.P.

It was with great sadness and shock that we learned of the sudden and untimely death of lifelong Currin club member Liam Quigley. A proud Currin man, Liam’s roots were firmly embedded in the G.A.A. in our small parish. His late father Mick laid the seeds for the Quigley family to be synonymous with Currin G.F.C. and Liam certainly followed in his footsteps. Liam had many achievements as a player, the highlights being success with the famous ‘Grasshoppers’ and the Junior Championship titles in 1968 and 1972. Liam was a fearless and feared defender who represented his county at minor level and when his playing days were over he unselfishly gave of his time and expertise in coaching many youth teams in Currin and in his adopted Clones. As a mentor, Liam achieved success not only at underage level but also at senior level with both Clones and Currin and he was a key member of the management team when Currin recaptured the Dr Ward Cup in 2004 after a 53 year break. Currin club members were privileged to form a guard of honour at his funeral on Friday last. The huge outpouring of grief in the community was testament to the high regard in which he was held. Currin G.F.C. extend our sympathy to his wife Gay, his sons Donal and Daragh his brothers Aidan, Sean and Brian and to all his extended family and friends.  Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
