Clones GFC

Congratulations to our chairman Tom Kelly on winning the Senior Club Official of the year award at the County Convention on Thursday night last. It’s fantastic to see Tom’s tireless hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the job been noticed outside of the club at county level.  Never one to take the limelight we’re delighted to shine it in his direction on this occasion.  Tom you should take a big bow and hearty congratulations from everyone.

Congratulations to the victorious Largy College team who won the Under 16 VEC County final against Inver College on Friday on a Scoreline of 4-11 to 2-11. Several Clones players were fundamental to the victory along with players from Eire Og, Currin, Killevan and Aghabog. Captained by James Mac Elwain Largy played into the wind in a very tight first half, leaving it a one point game at halftime, Largy were able to absorb a lot of Inver pressure at the start of the second half and stamped their authority on proceedings in the last fifteen minutes to seal a deserving and historic victory.  Clones players as follows; James Mac Elwain (C), Tristan Reavey, Eoin McQuaid (1-05) Ryan Rooney, James Mealiff (0-02), Ben Daly, Kevin Reilly, Caolan McDonald, Sean McGovern, Darragh McDermott and David Jelistratovs.  Next step for Largy college is Ulster and we wish them continued success.

Good Luck to the under 18’s Largy College team in their VEC county final against Ballybay this coming Tuesday.  The gauntlet has been passed to the older lads after the under 16’s victory on Friday.  I’m sure that this will spur them on and hopefully we’ll have double champions in the school.

Scór na nÓg: Colm Kirke took part in the Aithriseoireacht (Recitation) competition at the Ulster semi-final of Scór held in Silverbridge, Co.Armagh on Saturday 8 December. Colm’s “Cross-Eyed Monaghan Hurler” went very well on the night and he now qualifies for the Scór na nÓg Ulster Final in St.Cecilia’s College, Derry on Saturday 12 January at 5.00pm.Well done Colm and good luck in the final!

Well Done to David Freeman on making the Under 21 County panel for next season.  David was essential to the club winning the Junior League title this season.  This talented young player is going places and we wish him all the best.

Winter Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday with Dutchy up in St. Tiarnach’s primary school at 7pm.  It’s only the turkey that needs to put on weight coming upto Christmas so get up and keep the conditioning.

Strength and Conditioning coach for the under 16’s and Minor teams Stephen Adamson is encouraging all players to keep up with the programs set out. Performance reviews will be carried out in January with new programs being given out then.
