Minors: Emyvale Minors won the GRM Minor League Division 2 Title when they defeated Magheracloone on Saturday last on a scoreline 3:11 – 1:13. It was a very entertaining, exciting match with the lead changing hands on a few occasions but it was marred at the end with an ugly incident that left Daithi Colton hospitalised with a head injury. We are glad to relate that Daithi has since recovered and is back to full health. The game was played in Blackhill in ideal conditions and Emyvale started very brightly and Man of the Match, Ryan Mc Anespie got his first point of the day but Magheracloone hit back with three points. Ryan converted a free after he was fouled and once again Magheracloone were on target and again Ryan tapped over. Then came disaster for Emyvale when a high ball wasn’t dealt with and David Kirk got on the end of it and drove it to the back of Emyvale net. Ryan pulled three points back one from play after good work by Daithi Colton and the other two from frees to leave the half time score: Magheracloone 1:4 Emyvale 0:6. Emyvale got off to the perfect start when straight from the throw-in, Ryan Mc Anespie took a pass and drove forward, jinked his way past the defence and found the back of the net to put Emyvale back in front. Magheracloone responded with three points to level scores and Rory Sherry put Emyvale back in front with a well taken point. Magheracloone added another three points and Rory Sherry scored another before Ryan Mc Anespie rattled the back of the net for the second time after a great individual run. Magerheracloone scored another point and Emyvale were awarded a free around the middle of the field. Ryan took the free, hit it to Rory who gave it back to Ryan and he blasted it to the corner of the net to get his hat trick. Alan Mc Cahey scored two more points before Paudie Hayes brought off a magnificent save to keep Emyvale’s hopes alive. Ryan added another point and Dylan Mc Kenna made a surging run, bad knee ‘n all, to score a great point to put Emyvale four ahead in injury time. It was then that Daithi got injured and after he was stretchered off, there was a short passage of play of play before the final whistle sounded to declare Emyvale County Minor Champions. Joint captains Colin Hughes and Dylan Mc Kenna accepted the cup on behalf of their team. There were good performances from Paudie Hayes who brought off a great save at a vital time, Enda Callery who was very strong in defence, Nathan Keenan who made some great runs forward, Mervyn Browne who defended well and got good support from Conor Mc Quillan James Mc Kenna and Aaron Loughran, Colin Hughes who made great catches in mid-field, Ryan Nestor who worked tirelessly, Dylan Mc Kenna for his never say die attitude, Rory Sherry who was strong in attack and Daithi Colton, Anthony O’Brien, Darren Doherty,  Christopher Treanor, and Jack Kelly who all played their part in this great victory. Ryan Mc Anespie was the difference between the teams. His work rate, distribution, accuracy, and skills were a delight to behold.  Great praise must go to the manager John Mc Aleer, selectors Macartan Mc Elroy, Vincent Mc Anespie, Genie Mc Kenna and coach Sean Mc Meel for their work with the team all year. Emyvale team & scorers: Paudie Hayes, James Mc Kenna, Dylan Mc Kenna 0:1, Conor Mc Quillan,  Enda Callery, Aaron Loughran, Mervyn Browne, Nathan Keenan, Colin Hughes, Ryan Nestor, Rory Sherry 0:2, Daithi Colton, Ryan Mc Anespie 3:8, Darren Doherty, Anthony O’Brien. Subs. Christopher Treanor, Jack Kelly.
