Monaghan Ladies County Board

Thoughts on the 10 in a row.

On winning our 10th senior club championship title in a row, it has been down to a lot of hard work from many people. People within the club including committee members, managers team mates and many other people.

The team have put in a serious effort over the past number of years and this is why we have lifted our 10th Championship in a row. It is also down to a lot of work this year by Francie, Kevin and Noel.

The hunger, the determination and also the pride in the jersey is still very strong within this team after so many years.

Going into the championship this year we did not know what to expect, just like every other year. We have lost a few players due to emigration and we didn’t know what to expect from other teams but like every other year we trained as hard as always and came away with a win in the semi-final at home to Emyvale. In the final we did not know what to expect from Truagh, we had played them in the league and had beaten them but it’s a different story with championship football, thankfully we overcame them in the final which meant we lifted the Senior Club Championship title for the 10th time in a row.

In ladies football in Monaghan we are at the minute the only club in which has achieved this.

For the girls and also myself it feels just as good as the very first title.

For me to be honoured in lifting the title for the 10th time means so much, as I have watched so many players lift that cup and delighted to get the chance.

As we have now lifted our club championship, our eyes are firmly set on our Ulster campaign. We are back at training already and raring to go for the Ulster Championship.

For the future of Donaghmoyne ladies it is looking really good as our underage teams are winning numerous competitions, so here’s to another 10 in a row

Senior championship final *Report*……….11/08/2012

Donaghmoyne     V       Truagh

Truagh who were in the very first senior final were total underdogs going into this match, Donaghmoyne who were aiming for their 10th Senior title in a row were the overwhelming favourites and showed their superiority throughout the game. Niamh Mc Carthy pointed for Donaghmoyne after just a min of play, Eileen Mc Elroy on the run passed to Majella woods and she recorded a second, Amanda Casey got a third after collecting from Cathriona Mc Connell. In the 10th Minute the killer blow came for Truagh when Niamh Mc Carty collected in the air and passed to loose player Fiona Laffery on the run in and the said player goaled. Less than 3 mins later a second goal came this time from Captain Cathriona Mc Connell.

Truagh started to get to the speed of the game and with some fast ball going in Natasha Mohan scored a point, her sister Caoimhe pointed soon after when Eileen Mc Kenna won a good ball in the middle of the park, another point came for Natasha in the next minute when   her sister Caoimhe won it high in the air and laid it off to her sister on the run in. Donaghmoyne’s captain then recorded two points one from play and another from a free.      With just over 20 mins gone Natasha Mohan pointed once again with some good interchange from her sister Caoimhe. Truagh were forced to get all hands to the fore to pull off two great shots coming from the Donaghmoyne forward line to deny them certain goals. Shortly after Truagh had Aoibhinn Corrigan sinbinned for a foul on Cathriona Mc Connell and with the clock ticking towards the half time Fiona laffery was left unmarked and with a good run forward planted the ball in the net once more. This left the halftime score at 3-5 to 0-4

Donaghmoyne’s Eileen Mc Elroy and Truaghs Caoimhe Mohan had a clash of heads on the onset of the second half when Caoimhe who had won the ball was tackled by Donaghmoyne defenders resulting in both players running into one another. Play was delayed for a while but both parties were able to continue on the field. Caoimhe Mohan who had won the free passed a short ball to Natasha who passed it back again and she pointed. Donaghmoyne had now upped their game and with total supremacy were able to pick of scores at will, points followed from Cora Courtney(1), Niamh Mc Carty(1),  Amanda Casey(1) and Cathriona Mc Connell(2). Then the Truagh goalie kicked the ball out straight into the hands of Cathriona Mc Connell and with the goalie not yet back on the goal line, Cathriona tipped the ball just over her head and it rolled into the back of the Truagh net. Caoimhe Mohan then pointed a free for a foul on Eileen Mc Kenna. Caoimhe also got a shot on goal when she took off with speed but Linda Martin was alert to the danger and got the ball away to safety. In the final 10 mins points were recorded from Amanda Casey(1), Cathriona Mc Connell(1), Joanne Courtney(1) and the hat trick for Fiona Laffery when she scored her third goal of the game, the final say of the game went to Truagh youngster Amy Murray when she pointed from play.  Truagh did work tirelessly throughout but it was an uphill battle, they do have some great young players in their ranks albeit a lot younger than the average age of the Donaghmoyne girls. Once again Donaghmoyne has reigned supreme and have strength in dept throughout, they controlled the game with a great work rate and accuracy in front of the posts and showed why they are still champions in their 10th Season.

Intermediate championship final win and thoughts

Last friday was a very tough and intense game, both teams were very well prepared going into this final and it just shows the high standard of football within

monaghan. Ahabog were a very strong team to be playing against and they put us through our paces right to the final whistle. With experienced forwards like aisling tierney, laura boylan and ellen mc carron, our backs were under serious pressure from the start. It was a team effort that helped us win in the end, pure heart and dedication got us our victory. We went five points down at one stage and ahabog looked like they had the upper hand, but everyone worked very hard and leanne kirks goal was the turning point in the game for us. Im delighted to say im the captain of a great bunch of girls and that their hard work paid off.

A big thank you has to go to our management, Fiona Leo and Orla they had the faith in us all year. Also to the big magheracloone support that turned up to the game last friday, their encouragement throughout the game really gave the team a lift when we needed it.

A special thanks to declan rudden and noel mc nally for their efforts last friday night after the game. We are looking forward now to progressing into ulster and have a lot of hard work to do between now and then.

Intermediate championship FINAL *Report*……….10/08/2012

Magheracloone     V         Aghabog

This was always going to be a close contest and one in which the outcome could not be predicted, two teams battling it out to be back in the senior championship ranks for 2013.

After only one minute of play Magheracloone recorded the first point from Niamh Kindlon, a player who was inspirational throughout the game when needed. With some good interchange from Laura Boylan, Aisling Tierney pointed for Aghabog, another 6 minutes were to elapse before the next score a point from the boot of Niamh Kindlon, this in turn was cancelled out by Aisling Tierney at the other end. Some good play by Rachel Boylan found Anita Newel on the run to point for Aghabog, a foul on E Mc Carron resulted in Aisling Tierney pointing. Niamh Kindlon was fouled out on the wing and she pointed from the spot, some great tackles and defending by both sides had kept the scores at a minimum but in the 20th minute a bad clearance by the Aghabog defence when they failed to gather the loose ball and Niamh Kindlon was in the right place to send it low into the back of the net, Shauna Tuite added a point to bring the score to 1.4 to 0.4 in the 23 minute. Laura Boylan who was causing problems for the Magheracloone defence won herself a free which she duly pointed and some minutes late Flavia O’Callaghan added another from play. A great ball in from Aghabogs Ellen Mc Carron was saved on the goal line by Ciara Mc Dermott another player who excelled for Magheracloone, this was indeed a let off and Ciara Mc Guinness who must have run the socks of herself all through the game collected the kickout and with a surging run forward passed to Karen Byrne who pointed to leave the half time score at 1.5 to 0.6

Aghabog started much the better team after the break and one may have thought they were home and dry with 15 mins of the second half gone, with a goal and two points (all from play) from co player Ellen Mc Carron, one point from Laura Boylan and a free from Aisling Tierney to put the score now at 1.10 to Magheracloone 1.5 but Magheracloone persistence finally paid off, from none other than Christina Reilly who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park, she played the ball into Karen Byrne who pointed. Less than two mins later Leanne Kirk who had just been introduced into the fray for Magheracloone was in the right place to send a cracking shot into the net and suddenly Magheracloone were back in contention. With Niamh Kindlon now in the driving seat Aghabogs defenders found it hard to contain her strength and ability, as she scored the next three points one from play and two frees, Karen Byrne another player who stood up to the test  pointed once again while Niamh Kindlon pointed another from a free. Aghabog did score just once more in the dying minutes, a point from the boot of Flavia O’Callaghan and the final score to seal the game for Magheracloone came from once again Niamh Kindlon. This was an excellent game of football with both sides of forwards evenly matched, overall Magheracloone battled better all over field when the stakes were down and deserved the win in the end.
