Senior Football Championship:.

On Sunday last we played Ballybay in the Senior Championship quarter final in Clontibret. We got off to a very shaky start which saw Ballybay score a goal and a point within the first minute and after eight minutes we were behind by five points. However we settled well and dominated the remainder of the half to score four unanswered points to just trail by the minimum one point at the break. In the second half it was close and tight but we could never overcome that early goal disadvantage.

In the end we were beaten by two points but again we proved that we are not out of our depth at this level. We now travel to Aughnamullen on Sunday next to play Latton, the 2011 county champions. Throw in is at 1.45 p.m. Our next league fixture will also be against Latton on Sunday 9th September, away in Latton – enough said about fixture planning. To keep in touch, follow the Monaghan GAA website for definite fixtures. These fixtures will also be posted in the village.

Juvenile and Youth.

U-14 Training takes place every Wednesdsay from 4.15p.m. to 5.30p.m and for the younger players on Saturday morning. Our Go Games team took part in the Blitz on Saturday last and got on great. Fintan, Declan, Aidan, Ciaran and team are doing great work. Our juveniles will be selling lines for the All Ireland tickets, please support them. Fixtures etc are all on the official Monaghan website.

Ladies Football.

Monaghan ladies had a super win over Mayo in the All Ireland Quarter final in Roscommon on Saturday last. A difficult breeze and a physical Mayo side made it difficult for the Monaghan girls to get into their stride but playing excellently against the breeze in the second half they ran out convincing winners. Once again Ellen made a superb unselfish contribution to this victory, so heartiest congratulations to her and Laura and all the girls. Arch rivals Cork now await them in the semi-final.

All Ireland Tickets Raffle

We now know that Donegal are one of the All Ireland finalists and that tickets for the final will be like gold dust. Our draw for 2 All Ireland Football Premium Tickets together with overnight accommodation will now be very attractive. Tickets / Cards are currently available from committee members. Please support.

Congratulations to Orla King (daughter of Colm and Jancinta) who celebrated her twenty first on Saturday.

Heavy Vintage Lorries:  On Sunday we had a visit from about thirty Vintage lorries who called at Scotshouse for a refreshment break on their journey from Dungannon through Monaghan and Clones. after their break they went on to Cootehill and then back to Dungannon.  Many of these lorries were rescued and worked on for many months by enthusiasts to bring them back to working vehicles.  Our own John Markey is one of those who spent many a late night working on his lorry.  It really looks good now.

Rev Fr Cahal Deery said his last Sunday Mass in Scothouse this week. After just two years here it is sad to loose such a wonderful young priest who has done some great work in his short time with us. We are lucky that we are to get another priest to replace him.  Fr Deery’s very good sermons were enjoyed by all.  We wish him well in his new post in Clones we know that the people in Clones are lucky to get him.

Public Digital Switchover Information:  Free coffee morning.  Monday 3rd September  11.0am at Clones Community Forum No 4 Mc Curtain Street Clones.  The event will explain what is involved and answer any questions you may have.  All welcome.  Remember if you don’t see about your television soon you may have no picture after 24th October.

Football:  Sometimes you win sometimes you Loose – Thats what sport is all about. This weekend some in Scotshouse were disappointed with their team results when Cork were beaten by Donegal in Dublin while others felt the same way with the result of Currin against Ballybay when the lads lost by just a few points.  Considering the size of the club they have been playing well in the senior league and should be proud of themselves. There is still the back door entrance so lets give them every support.  The ladies of Monaghan who went to Roscommon to play Mayo won their match.. Ellen McCarron and Laura Boylan Represent us. A good result 4-15 to 2-13  The semi final against Cork should be a good game,as they beat Cork in the league earlier this year.  Good luck girls.

Cemetery Sunday:  The annual blessing of the graves will take place on Sunday 9th September in Scotshouse after the 10.00 Mass and in Corrinshishigo at 12 noon.
