We were on the wrong end of a one-point game at home to Latton on Saturday. Some good scores by Paul Kelly, Liam Hahessy, Paul Rushe, Gareth Treanor and John McCoy had us 0-7 to 0-6 up at half-time, but a series of missed chances cost us in the second half and Latton hit a late goal to steal a 1-11 to 0-13 win.

We have a chance to redeem ourselves away to Clontibret tomorrow night (Wednesday). The Crawley Cup team play their last league game at home to Blackhill on Friday.
U-21: Our Under-21s lost their league quarter-final away to Emerald Sarsfields (Blackhill and Oram) last Tuesday. Despite a couple of points from Paul Kelly, our lads got off to a slow start and fell 1-5 to 0-2 behind. Two points by Liam Hahessy and a Dean McMahon goal, but Emerald Sarsfields led by 2-7 to 1-4 at half-time. Paul and Liam both found their range early in the second half, but Emerald Sarsfields’ third goal killed the game off as a contest. Dean fired home after a good ball in from Niall Greenan to put a better look on the scoreboard, only for Sarsfields to move further ahead with another major. Thomas Keelaghan sent a goal chance just over the bar late on and Liam Hahessy drilled a superb low free into the net, but it was too little, too late. Thanks to John Hahessy for taking on the management of our Under-21s.

Handball: Eoghan McGinnity won the national title at the All-Ireland One-Wall Championships held in Citywest in Dublin. Eoghan had to play five matches in the 11 years age group on Friday and Saturday, with the semi-final and final on Sunday and he remained unbeaten throughout to bring the All-Ireland title to the Harps His semi-final opponent was the talented Tyrone player Darragh Curran, who raced into a 6-3 lead early on. However, Eoghan kept his cool and went on to win convincingly. A very tense final was watched by a huge group of spectators and supporters. Cian O’Driscoll from Cork had reached the final by beating several of the top seeds on the way and thus was seen as a big favourite to win. What followed was an amazing display by Eoghan of accurate serves followed up by astounding kill-shots to win 21-11. Congratulations to our new All-Ireland champion and also to Conor McDonnell who reached the Silver Masters final only to miss out by one point against Armagh’s Conor McMahon.
U-14: Both of our Under-14 football teams picked up excellent results in Scotstown last Saturday. The Division One team had a great win on a scoreline of 3-19 to 0-14 after another improved performance. Our lads dominated the third quarter, thanks to 1-1 by Conor Duffy, two points from Michael and one each by Jack Deery and Ethan, and they carried that into the final period, with Shane, Remy and Jack hitting two points each and Ben Kearns-Flynn and Conor also splitting the posts.
Team and scorers: Cathal Power; Thomas Croarkin, Seán McKenna; Niall Ward, Ultan O’Rourke, Niall McManus; Shane McMahon (0-5, 1f, 1 ’45), Paul Peppard; Jack Deery (0-3), Remy McKenna (0-3, 1f), Conor Duffy (1-2); Ethan Murphy (1-1), Michael Mulligan (1-4, 0-3f).

The Division Five team also had a comfortable win. The lads hit an unanswered 2-3 in the first quarter, with the goals coming from Dylan McAree and Nathan O’Donoghue, as well as points by Aaron Coyle (two) and Stephen Ward. Ryan McKenna, who moved out of goals into the forward line, added a point, before Dylan hit his second goal. Points followed from Aaron (two) and Conor McCrystal and Dylan then completed his hat-trick. Dylan found the net once more in the final quarter and a lobbed effort from Conor also went all the way in to make the final score 6-7 to 0-10.
Team and scorers: Ryan McKenna (0-1); Stephen Ward (0-1f), Zach Mallon, Anthony Greenan (Capt.); Soky John, Conor McCrystal (1-1); Aaron Coyle (0-4), Nathan O’Donoghue (1-0), Dylan McAree (4-0).

Ulster MFC Final: Best of luck to the Monaghan minor footballers in the Ulster final against Tyrone this Sunday. Our own Colin McAree is the team manager and he is joined by former manager Mattie McGleenan on his management team, while Michael Galligan, Fearghal McMahon and Kevin Loughran are part of the panel. We encourage everyone to get to Clones early and show support for our county minors.
County seniors: Hard luck to the county senior men’s footballers, who exited the championship last Sunday. We were represented this year by David Hughes, Neil McAdam, Shane Smyth and Conor Galligan. Well done to the ladies, who retained the Ulster title in some style.
Votes of sympathy: At last week’s monthly club meeting, votes of sympathy were passed to the families of Seánie Dwyer, Marie McGuinness and Benny McKenna.
