April 10th ‘12

Senior Blitz

Once again the Blitz competition which is meant to be a curtain raiser to the domestic season has had to be re arranged  due to a change in the  Ulster  fixtures, the competition which was originally fixed for Inniskeen on March 25th had to be deferred because of unforeseen circumstances. It was then re fixed for April 29th but we learned at the County Board meeting on Wednesday last  that Ulster Council had rescheduled the Ulster fixtures to suit Armagh who were naming a “B” team in the Ulster Junior Championship . Monaghan are now at home to Cavan on that date. Fingers crossed the Blitz  is now scheduled for May 6th with the venue being Clontibret.

All County League.

The Camogie season gets off to a start on Tuesday evening next when clubs are out in the first round of the County League.

Truagh are home to Clontibret @ 7.30pm

Inniskeen are home to Castleblayney @ 7.30pm.

Sponsorship

The County Board are currently targeting various Businesses in the County with a view to sponsorship of the Senior Championship and  League. This initiative  was put in place last year and proved very successfull whereby Clubs are required to get sponsorship from 5 businesses in their area and a draw will be made at a special Launch night in Cloghan  to determine who will go forward to sponsor both competitions.

County Training

Training will  take place in Cloghan on Sunday next at 12 noon. Clubs are reminded to send along as many girls as possible to the session. The first County game of the Season which is in the Ulster Junior Championship will now take place on Sunday 29th. April when we take on Cavan at home.

U14 Development Squad

Training will continue in Cloghan on Saturday mornings at 10.30pm. Players are asked to attend as early as possible. A good turnout has been reported to date where  Pauric Dowdall  and Marie Greenan are stepping up preparitions  for the upcoming Inter County Blitz which is on  Sunday 22nd of April.

“Camogie for All”

The Camogie Association is due to launch ‘Camogie for All’, a series of workshops to cater for camogie players with physical, learning and sensory disabilities.

Funded under the 2012 Equality Innovation Fund the seminars will be delivered on a provincial basis in the coming months.

They will provide teachers, coaches, and tutors of camogie education courses, with the necessary skill-set to cater for players with physical, learning and sensory disabilities.

It is anticipated that ‘Camogie for All’ will also be incorporated under the Association’s coach education programme and will be provided on an annual basis.
Speaking about the funding CEO of the Camogie Association Sinéad O’Connor said:
“Our new programme, ‘Camogie for All’ is an exciting development which ultimately aims to increase the opportunities for young females with disabilities to play team sports. At present the opportunities for females are not as widespread as their male counterparts and we will work to address this with ‘Camogie for All’.
‘Camogie for All’ will equip our coaches, teachers and tutors with the ability to provide relevant camogie participation for females with disabilities. The benefits are many, including an increased rate of physical activity for females with disabilities; stronger links in the community between camogie clubs and various organisations as well as helping to foster a positive and healthy self image for participants.”

The Equality Innovation Fund is an initiative of the Equality Authority and is co-funded by the European Union under the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity PROGRESS (2007-2013).

Inniskeen

Underage Camogie begins Wednesday 18th April at 07.30pm in Grattan Park. Registration on the night.

Well done to our Under 14’s who are attending county training in Cloghan, training is on Saturday mornings at 10.15am and our own Pauric Dowdall is involved in the development squad for the Under 14s .

Senior training continues on Mondays and Wednesday and we need a full turn out as our first league game is at home against Castleblayney on Tuesday 17th April.

Clontibret

The Easter recess provided ‘the calm before the storm’ with our U-14’s, seniors and U-14 county players in action in the coming days. Today (Thurs) our U-14 girls open their Armagh League campaign when they play Castleblayney in Clontibret at 4pm. We wish the girls the best of luck and hopefully as many parents as possible will come along to give support.

Tomorrow evening (Friday) our senior team will play Ballymacnab (away) in the first round of the Armagh League ‘Premier Division’. This will be a tough encounter against the Armagh senior champions but nonetheless one which the players will benefit from.

Our U-14 county players have maintained an excellent attendance at county training despite basketball, football and musical engagements. Keep up the good work girls. Thanks also to our parents who have re-organised busy schedules to ensure the girls are in attendance. Last week Aisling (Greenan) assisted Pauric Dowdall as Marie was on her Tutor Training   Course in Croke Park. Aisling showed that she too has a great rapport with the younger players so hopefully she will pursue coaching at some stage also. After training the players presented Aisling with a birthday cake and of course Patricia was on hand with her camera to capture the moment!!

The County U-14 team will participate in their first inter-county blitz on Sun. April 22nd when they will face teams from Down, Armagh and Louth to name a few.

This Saturday an U-12 Blitz is listed to take place in Armagh though as yet no details have been provided. Once available, they will be circulated and a check on our numbers taken. However, other dates for U-12 Blitzes which should be pencilled in are:

Thurs. April 19th, Thurs. April 26th, Thurs. May 3rd and Thurs. May 17th

Many thanks to Nicola, Joanne and Marie (County Development Officer) who attended the County Board meeting on Monday last. A number of important decisions were taken including the re-scheduling of the Senior Blitz to Sunday May 6th and the commencement of county training this Sunday. Malachy to contact all players with details. Clubs are also being asked to once again source sponsorship for the senior League and Championship following the success of last year’s campaign. At present the club is awaiting a template of the sponsorship letter. A levy of €500 is being imposed on each club in lieu of seeking this sponsorship.

As outlined earlier Marie spent last weekend in Croke Park undertaking the first part of her Tutor Training Programme which is being delivered by a representative of the Irish Sports Council. This is the first of a number of residential weekends which Marie will undertake as County Development Officer (voluntary). Well done Marie on the leadership you are showing.

Club training continues for our seniors each Tuesday and Friday, Primary school players each Tuesday at 6pm, U-14/U-16 each Tuesday at 7pm.’Mum Without Me’ Saturday at 4pm. Keep an eye on those fixtures lists also. Many thanks to Shauna Mc and Marie for their assistance.
