County Board Meeting

A good attendance was recorded at the February County Board Meeting which was held in the Glencarn Hotel on Monday evening last, where newly elected Chairperson Malachy Trainor conducted the business of the Board. Ger Gribben , Regional Development Officer was also in attendance.

Nominations

A number of positions, left vacant at Convention had been filled, with  Teresa Lam, Castleblayney accepting the nomination for Vice Chairperson , Catherine Greenan, Clontibret for  Assistant Treasurer and Shauna Mc. Elvanney, Clontibret as minutes Secretary. The Nominee for Secretary was absent but hopefully would be elected at the next meeting. Anne Mc. Kenna, Truagh will resume the role of Ulster Council Delegate and Maretta Sherry as PRO.

National Fixtures

The Board had requested that due to work commitments, Saturday games  would  limit some girls involvement  in the Monaghan  Squad but unfortunately their request was ignored when the National  fixtures were brought before the meeting. Monaghan have been placed in the Junior” A “All Ireland series where Counties Offaly, Cavan, Tyrone, Westmeath and Dublin will participate, with the first fixture being scheduled for Saturday 30th June when we take on Cavan. Malachy Trainor will attend club Player Meetings in the near future with a view to encourage girls to come along to the County Panel.

Development

Ger Gribben, Regional Development Officer and Marie Greenan, County Development Officer put forward a plan for County U 14’s where Monaghan together with neighbouring Counties, Cavan, Tyrone Louth and Armagh would organise  blitzs on alternate  months and this would consequently lead  to a Provincial and National Blitz at the later part of the year. They pointed out that Louth ran a very successful  Under 8’s 10’s and 12’s Blitz and would encourage Monaghan  to amalgamate with Louth to avail of a more  varied competition.

Fixtures Meeting

A fixtures sub Committee was set up:  Noleen Mc. Bride, Castleblayney, Dympna Kerr, Clontibret, Isobel Kieran, Inniskeen and Maretta Sherry, Truagh. Meeting to be held in the Glencarn on Tuesday 14th. February at 7.30.

In conclusion The Chairperson thanked everyone for their contribution to the  successful Presentation night which was held on the previous weekend and attended by Joan O’Flynn, President of the Association.

Mum without Me!’ got underway on Saturday afternoon last at 4pm in the Community Centre and what an enthusiastic bunch they proved to be!! With a yellow card having to be issued during their first small-sided game it is clear that the seniors could have some serious opposition if it’s challenges they’re looking for!! Please note this activity will take place outdoors for the next two Saturdays due to the unavailability of the Centre. So if you fancy some healthy exercise in the fresh air, head on down to the pitch at 4pm.

Many thanks to Catherine and Marie Greenan who, along with Club Cathaoirleach, Shauna McElvaney, attended the County Board meeting on Monday evening. Well done! There will be much delight at the re-appointment of Maretta Sherry as County PRO, Ann McKenna as delegate to Ulster Council and Teresa Lam as Vice-Chairman of the Board.
