Monaghan Harps Lotto: Numbers 1, 7, 16 and 22. Jackpot of €2,050 not won. Residual prizes: €100 Bridie McGill c/o Owen Connell (Hurling Club); €40 Betty McCaffrey c/o Hurling Club; €40 Mark Clerkin c/o Ladies Club; €40 Séamus Brannigan c/o Hurling Club. Jackpot for Sunday, December 11 is €2,200. The Lotto-committee AGM takes place in the clubhouse this Sunday, December 11 at 8.30pm sharp. All Lotto-committee members are asked to attend. There will be no Lotto draw on the week ending December 25, but it will return on January 2 and tickets for this draw can be left into the clubhouse on the day before 6pm or on December 31 between 3 and 11. Continued thanks go to all involved with the Lotto for their tireless work.

Quiz: We are hosting a table-quiz in the clubhouse this Friday, December 9 at 9pm. Like our last quiz, we are delighted to have Séamus Gallagher on board as quizmaster and there will also be spot prizes and traditional Irish music, so a great night is in store. Everyone is welcome and all support would be greatly appreciated for this fundraiser.

AGMs: The Lotto AGM takes place this Sunday at 8.30pm. Full reports on the juvenile and senior club AGMs are available on our club website.

Monaghan Harps Christmas Variety Concert: This takes place on St. Stephen’s night, December 26, in the clubhouse from 7-9pm, followed by an open session till late. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is ticket-only, costing just €5 and everyone is welcome! Contact the club’s Cultural Officer Gerard Clerkin at 086 8535992.

Charity match: The club’s annual charity match will take place on the first bank holiday of the new year, Monday, January 2. Owen Connell is currently giving out sponsorship forms, so contact him if you want to take part.

Gloria: Thanks to Gloria and Patrice for playing in the clubhouse last Saturday night and all involved in organising.

Better late than never: It took 30 years, but a medal from Monaghan’s maiden Ulster Under-21 Football Championship win in 1981 finally found its way to our own Séamus Trappe last Sunday. Séamus had been living in Donegal when the letter went out about the presentation of the medals and he missed out, but it was brought to the attention of the county board and they sourced an extra medal which was presented at our AGM by Seán McKenna and Paudge Connolly. Congratulations Séamie!

Well done: To Hugh Coyle on his completion of the Monaghan GAA For All programme last week.

Happy birthday: To Conall McKenna, who celebrated his 21st in the clubhouse recently.

Scór: Well done to our representatives at the recent county Scór na nÓg finals. By all accounts, we were unfortunate not to be among the winners. The club will be competing in Scór Sinsir early next year: anyone who wishes to take part can contact Gerard Clerkin.

Handball: The legendary Duxie Walshe visited the Saturday coaching session in the complex on Saturday last. He spoke to all the young players and proceeded to play everyone present. Earlier on Saturday, he spent three hours training Ramunas in Kingscourt. He was so impressed that he expressed a wish to visit Gavan Duffy Park to see for himself the work being done on behalf of the young handballers. His words of encouragement certainly paid off on Sunday when five players reached the County Juvenile Finals which will take place in St. Mellan’s on Sunday. They are: Caileán Myles, Justas Dambinskas, Ryan Mooney, Martin Mullen and Ramunas. They will represent the club in the Under 12, 13, 14 and 16 finals. In fact, the Under-12 Final will be an all-Harps affair between Caileán and Justas. There were outstanding performances from nine-year-old Eoghan McGinnity and Jakub Szkup who both reached the last four only to lose out to their own teammates. John Lowry and young Conor Myles were delighted to reach the last eight where they again lost out to teammates. Ryan Mooney had to battle all the way to reach the Under-13 final after a close semi-final game with Ryan Mohan. Congratulations to Martin Mullen on again reaching a county final. By all accounts, Martin had an excellent semi-final battle with James McCague. Ramunas will relish his final against Eugene McGeough and is hoping to overturn last year’s defeat. Darren Byrne lost in the Under-17 semi-final, while Matthew Sweeney and Ciarán Cassidy were unlucky in their matches. Thanks to everyone who helped referee matches and a special thanks for all the parental support.

Clubhouse: The Gavan Duffy Park clubhouse, which offers a comfortable lounge and function-room and ample car-parking space, is available to book for parties and functions, by contacting Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204.
