Castleblayney Notes

August 9th, 2011

Seniors – The seniors lost narrowly to Ballybay on Friday night last in a nailbiting finish. Ballybay were much sharper in the first half and led by 4 points at half time, aided in no small part by a 10th minute penalty. A much more determined Blayney emerged after the break and 2 quick points reduced the arrears and when Ryan Treacy found the net Blayney hit the front. Wasteful shooting from Blayneys forwards stopped them from pressing home their advantage and they paid the penalty when a late Ballybay rally saw them kick the last 4 scores to win 1-09 to 1-07. The seniors travel to Latton this Sunday morning for a 12 o clock throw in.

Junior BThe Bs were away to Scotstown last night (Wednesday), result and report next week.

Minor – The minors returned to action on Tuesday night with a home game against Clontibret, result and report next week. Next Tuesday night they are away to Monaghan Harps at 7.30PM.

Faughs Summer Camp – The Castleblayney Faughs Summer Camp is now underway and with over 100 stars of the future attending every day it is proving a great success. The camp continues until Saturday when it concludes with a trip away for the kids followed by a BBQ at around 4.30PM.

Photographs – Some photographs from the Muckno Mania sports day, the Bungee jump, the Blayney show and last week’s Junior B final have been added to the gallery on the club website www.castleblayneyfaughs.com.

Juvenile Street Leagues – With five matches played in the Muckno League it is still Monaghan who lead the way, losing only once so far. The latest round of games were played on Tuesday 2nd of August where Monaghan defeated Dublin in the opening contest by 2 points with a Man of the Match display from Conor Mulligan. They then lost out narrowly to Kerry in a thrilling contest that could have gone either way but they regained their composure to put up a big score against Cork with some smart finishing from David Irwin and Ciaran Duffy.
Kerry are hot on Monaghan’s tails with a tally of 6 points and are the only team to have defeated Monaghan so far. They earned a hard fought victory over Cork in Round 3 thanks to a brilliant performance from Declan Hughes. They then defeated Monaghan by 3 points in Game 4 with dazzling displays from Shane Ward and Stephen Beattie. However, they seemed to be caught on the hop as they were defeated by Dublin in the final contest of the day but they remain in a strong position to qualify for the final at next week’s summer camp.
Dublin are currently in 3rd position and will be boosted by their victory over Kerry in Round 5. Having suffered back to back defeats against both Monaghan and Cork, it was vital that they picked up 2 points against Kerry. A strong team performance spearheaded by Josh Mone, James McAdam and Jake McManus ensured that they finished on the right side of the result on this occasion, and gave themselves a chance of reaching the final.
Cork gained their first victory of the campaign in Round 4 as they showed immense improvement from the previous week. They suffered a narrow defeat to Monaghan in Round 3 despite the huge efforts of Robbie Hanratty and Colin Merrick. They then put on a classy display against Dublin with Rory McGlynn as solid as a rock in goals and the accuracy of Niall O Connor up front proving to be the difference between the teams. Tiredness played a factor in their final game as they lost out to Monaghan, but it is clear that Cork will play a big part in this competition yet. It is full steam ahead to the Faughs Summer camp next week with the Finals taking place on Friday 12th August at 1:30 in St. Mary’s Park.
