Truagh Notes

By michael Mon 13th Jun

Seniors: In a hugely enjoyable game we lost by the narrowest away to Latton 2-7 to 0-14. We started impressively and were 2-1 to 0-2 in front after 12 minutes, the goals coming from Daniel McKenna and Mark Counihan. However, we let slip control and for the remainder of the half we were outscored 6 points to 1 to leave the half time score level, Latton 0-8 Gaeil Triucha 2-2. We again opened next half brightly scoring two successive points before Latton amassed 5 points to go in front 0-13 2-4 with 9 minutes remaining. This was reduced to 1 point on two occasions in the closing minutes, and despite valiant efforts to get the equaliser we were unable to get a share of the spoils and finished the game on the wrong side of a 2-7 0-14 scoreline. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Rory Treanor, Niall Feely, Niall McQuillan; Eoghan Kelly, Keith Sheerin, Niall Coyle; Barry Cuddy, Niall McMeel; John Treanor, Noel Clerkin (0-1), Justin Halligan; Daniel McKenna (1-4), Mark Counihan (1-2), Daniel Finnegan. Subs Used: Brendan Treanor for Justin Halligan (HT) & Pauric Treanor for Daniel Finnegan (54mins). Unanimous

We followed this with another league game in which Magheracloone was the opposition in a rain soaked St. Mellans last Sunday afternoon. We were defeated to a last gasp goal from Magheracloone, 1-5 to 1-8. It was Magheracloone who took the lead in the game, going 2 points up after 6 minutes. We replied with a Neil McRory point in the 7th minute, but found this to be our only score of the half and were 5 points behind at the break, 0-1 to 0-6. Though opening the second half with a better display and a Daniel McKenna point, we failed to convert our chances and were 0-2 0-8 down by the 44th minute. Scores started to come our way and when Niall Coyle converted an excellent goal in the 53rd minute, we were only 2 behind, 1-3 to 0-8. Mark Counihan scored from a placed kick in the 60th minute to reduce that margin to 1, before Gary Meehan registered a point in the 2nd minute of injury time to level scores. However, it was Magheracloone who gained the initiative from the kick out and scored a goal with the last moment of the game to leave us defeated, 1-5 1-8. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; Niall McQuillan, Keith Sheerin, Rory Treanor; Damian McRory, Niall Feely, Niall Coyle (1-0); Niall McMeel, Barry Cuddy; John Treanor, Neil McRory (0-1), Eoghan Kelly; Daniel McKenna (0-2, 1f), Mark Counihan (0-1f), Daniel Finnegan. Subs Used: Gary Meehan (0-1) for Niall Feely (27mins), Brendan Treanor for Daniel Finnegan (46mins), Pauric Treanor for Eoghan Kelly (49mins) & Gary Feely for Neil McRory (58mins).
