Castleblayney notes

June 7th, 2011

Seniors – The seniors returned to in action last night (Wednesday) when they faced Magheracloone, result and report next week. On Saturday they travel to Clontibret for a 4.00PM throw-in and next Wednesday night when they face Truagh at 8.00PM in Toome.

Junior B The Bs had their strongest team so far this year on show last Wednesday night for their opening championship game against Inniskeen and they ran out worthy 3-16 to 0-10 winners. Playing with a strong wind in the opening period Blayney were in the ascendency but some wasteful finishing meant that they didn’t convert this superiority to the scoreboard until a two goal salvo from Peter Treanor and Gerry Brady late in the half. The second half was a much more even affair as Inniskeen battled gamely, a Niall Duffy goal towards the end being the best score of the half. The Bs now have a short break with the next game down for 19th June against Latton.

Junior C – The Cs were also in championship action on Friday night when they defeated Killanny 3-13 to 3-09 after extra-time. This was an excellent game and a great advertisement for Division 4 football. Blayney started well and a Pauric Greene goal saw them 5 ahead midway through the first half but they then conceded 3 goals around the half-time break and found themselves 8 points down early in the second half. Goals from Gerry Brady and Brian McGuigansparked the revival and indeed Blayney lead as the game entered injury-time before a Killanny free took the game to extra-time. After more words of wisdom from the management Blayney dominated the extra period and ran out four point winners with the highlight being 2 excellent Ciaran McGinn points
