Charity
Race Night – Thank You

Firstly,
I would
like to take this opportunity to express my
appreciation for your generosity in support of my charity race night last
Friday night to raise funds for the Irish Heart Foundation and their F.A.S.T
Stroke campaign. The support from companies and the many individuals who bought
horses was incredible and will make a significant step towards my fund raising
target. The amount of support and goodwill I received over the last couple
of weeks has been overwhelming and I am very thankful for your sponsorship
towards my chosen charity. If anyone missed the
opportunity to buy a horse and would like to make a donation towards my fund
raising efforts then please let me know. Many thanks.

Monaghan
Electrical Intermediate Football League

Over the last
couple of weeks many people have asked me why I’m raising money for the Irish
Heart Foundation. Well, you wouldn’t want to have a week heart when supporting
our senior team as they have a habit of putting you through every emotion.
However, while the game was not pretty, the lads showed plenty of heart and
spirit to secure a narrow, but richly deserved, victory over Eire Og on a
score-line Rockcorry 0-12 Eire Og 1-8. Played in glorious conditions, both
teams spurned scoring opportunities during the opening exchanges and we registered
the first point on the 9th minute when Mark Daly converted a
free-kick after Martin Carroll was dragged down. Eire Og responded immediately
when they scored a penalty on the 10th minute and they pointed from a
free-kick moments later. Eire Og extended their lead on the 21st
minute when they drilled over a forty-five. Mark McGuirk pulled one back on the
26th minute but this was quickly cancelled out when Eire Og notched
over another point. We enjoyed our best spell of the first half during injury
time as Stephen McGuirk, Mark Daly and Liam Connolly slotted over scores on the
31st, 32nd and 33rd minutes respectively to
leave the sides level at the break Rockcorry 0-6 Eire Og 1-3. When play resumed
we started the better and Colin Quinn sent over a sweet point to take the lead.
Eire Og managed to level proceeding on the 8th minute with a fine
point but we restored our advantage on the 12th minute after an Eire
Og player was penalised for over carrying and Mark Daly converted the
free-kick. Four minutes later Mark Daly again showed his accuracy by dissecting
the posts with his free-taking and a minute later, we stretched our lead after
Mark McGuirk was hauled down and his brother Stephen took a quick free to
Dwayne Rooney who notched over a fantastic point to open up a three point lead
0-10 to 1-4. Eire Og closed the gap back to a
single point when they scored on the 18th and 21st
minutes. Shortly afterwards,  Mark Daly sent
over another fine point from a free-kick after Mark McGuirk was brought down and
when Noel Carroll soloed through, on the 24th minute, he fired over
a superb point to increase our lead to three points 0-12 to 1-6. Eire Og never
gave up and they regained the momentum and scored two further points in the
space of three minutes to leave just a solitary point separating the sides. The
anxiety and tension during the final moments of the game was, lets say,
unbearable as Eire Og threw everything forward in an effort to salvage something
from the game and thankfully our defence remained strong and showed great
character to deny Eire Og any simple scoring opportunities and at the final
whistle the score was Rockcorry 0-12 Eire Og 1-8. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a selection of
action shots.

14 Championship Final

Our under 14 team
played Blackhill last Monday evening in the division 4 championship final. It
was a very entertaining game with both sides producing some very good football
and there was only a single point separating the teams going into the last
quarter with Blackhill leading 0-10 to 1-6. Unfortunately, during the last
period we were playing against a strong breeze which made it very difficult to
get a score.  Blackhill on the other hand
made the most of their chances and secured the win on a score-line Blackhill
0-14 Rockcorry 1-6. Team & Scores: Aaron McGorman, Paul McPhillips, Mark
Duffy, Caoilan Gallagher, Cillian Thornton, Andrew McPhillips 1-3, Laurence
McCarthy 0-1, Patrick James, Pauric O’Brien 0-1, Kyle Brannigan, James Doody
0-1, Vincent O’Brien, Morgan Tate-McGeough, Garreth Smith, Caoilan McPhillips, and
Ryan Lynch.
