U14 Champions: Pride of place this
week goes to our U14 boys who recorded a famous win for the club on Tuesday
night. Playing Emyvale at Rooskey in ideal conditions, our lads took the pitch
against a physically stronger Emyvale team. However what our team may have
lacked in terms of size, they more than made up for with a display laced with
speed, agility and skill. Caolan McCooey in goals dealt with anything that came
his way in an assured fashion and pulled off a fantastic save in the second
half when the game was in the melting pot. Michael Clerkin marshalled the
defence excellently and he was ably assisted by Conor Murphy and Oisin Gleeson.
Fergal O’ Hanlon and Eoin McCarville put in a dominant display at midfield with
some pinpoint passes going into our forwards. Up front, Cameron O’Leary and
Killian Clerkin chipped in with a superb tally of 4-7 between them. A special
mention however, must go to Tyler O’Hanlon. Not content with one hatrick, Tyler struck another and
then added one more – just for luck. Seven goals is an incredible feat at any
level and there is no doubt some of our senior lads looking on could have
learned a thing or two in terms of finishing! This was a squad effort however;
Aaron Gallagher came on to score two brilliant points while Fergal Kierans, Jack
O Hanlon, Ryan Gleeson, Jonathan McGorman and Aidan Kierans all played their
part. Congratulations to all and a special thanks to mentors Shane Mulligan,
Tony McGorman and Fergal O’Hanlon. It was also great to see such a large
following of Aghabog support at the game, indeed when one pulled into the Harps
car park they could easily have mistook the game as a senior final of some
sort. Those present were not to be disappointed and there were some great
scenes of celebration as captain Fergal O’Hanlon lifted aloft the cup that
signalled Aghabog were Division 5 Championship winners 2011.
