U-16: Our Under-16 footballers are in the Division One league final against Magheracloone in Castleblayney this Saturday at 1pm (please note change of time). Best of luck to the team and their management of Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe, Ciarán Mulligan and Brian Lenehan.

Seniors: Our senior footballers returned to winning ways with a comprehensive double-scores victory at home to Doohamlet in the league last Saturday. Points from Dónal Hahessy (three), John Mulligan and Fearghal McMahon (two) and got us off to a good start, before Fearghal punched home the opening goal. Liam and Dónal Hahessy, Fearghal and Shane Smyth added points before half-time and Shane then found the net to make it 2-14 to 1-3. Doohamlet made a determined start to the second half, but a Stephen Driver point and 1-1 from Fearghal kept us well clear, before Shane hit a brace of points. Substitute Niall Greenan added his name to the scoresheet, as did James McKenna, who marked his SFL debut with 1-1 in the last five minutes to make the final score 4-20 to 2-10. Our next game is at home to Latton; due to be played on October 4, while this Saturday sees some of our seniors take part in the Kilmacud All-Ireland sevens competition.

Meetings: The club’s next monthly meeting is on Thursday, October 9 and the AGM has been set for Thursday, November 27.

Hurling: Our Under-16 hurlers’ bid to complete the double was ended with a narrow defeat in a keenly-contested quarter-final at home to Carrickmacross on Monday evening. In an open start to the game, points by Nathan O’Donoghue, Paul Peppard and Remy McKenna had our lads level at 0-3 apiece, before Dylan McAree and Mark Murphy converted frees. Cathal Power then pointed a ’65 and the remainder of the first-half scores came from frees by Mark (three) and Cathal, making it 0-10 to 0-8. It was score-for-score for most of the second half, with each Carrick point being cancelled out by long-range efforts from Cathal, but the visitors hit the last four points to win by 0-15 to 0-13 and overturn their league semi-final replay defeat. Well done to the players and management of Jim Dalton, Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe and John Hahessy for their efforts, which captured the league last month.

Team and scorers: Cillian Sherry; Ben Kearns-Flynn, Ryan Connolly, Conor Duffy; Cathal Power (0-5, 3f, 2 ‘65s), Dylan McAree (0-1f), Niall Ward; Niall McManus, Thomas Croarkin; Mark Murphy (0-4f), Remy McKenna (0-1), Paul Peppard (0-1); Nathan O’Donoghue (0-1), Seán Grant, Andrew Connolly.

Sub used: Anthony Greenan.

The Under-14 Hurling League group games finished with a good performance at home to Castleblayney last Saturday. Goals by Stephen Ward and Niall McKenna and a string of impressive scores from Conor McCrystal kept our lads in touch in an entertaining game, but a strong Blayney side did enough to run out 5-10 to 4-7 winners.

Team and scorers: Aaron Treanor; Seán Conway, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh; Lochlainn Power, Shane McCabe; Conor McCrystal (2-6, 0-3f), Colin Peppard; Stephen Ward (1-0), Niall McKenna (1-1), Cian O’Leary; Tristan Moyna, Sebastian Ostrowski.
