Community Games: Well done to the Monaghan Town Community Games Under-10 mixed Gaelic Football team, who won bronze medals at the All-Ireland finals in Athlone last weekend.

Their first game of a busy weekend was against Clann na nGael from Roscommon on Friday, when a slow start left Monaghan facing an uphill struggle. Goals by Luke McManus, Senan Cudden and Oisín Reilly kept the lads in the hunt and they managed a storming finish, finding the net three more times through Luke (twice) and Josh Kelly, only to fall short on a 6-11 to 6-6 scoreline against the eventual winners.

Team and scorers: Seán Callan (0-1); Patrick Duffy, Scarlett Herron; Josh Kelly (1-0), Michael McMorrow; Eoin O’Hanlon (0-1), Luke McManus (3-0); Senan Cudden (1-1), Shea Swift (0-1); Fionán Ó Gallchóir (0-1), Oisín Reilly (1-1).

Subs used: Dáire Conlon, Jordan Crampton, Max Mallen, Ross Finnegan.

Saturday’s game against Fossa, Killarney followed a similar pattern. Monaghan struggled to turn possession into scores in the opening stages and again allowed their opponents open up a big lead before they got going with scores by Luke, Oisín Eoin O’Hanlon and Seán Callan. Monaghan trailed by 12 points going into the final quarter, but another brave comeback saw two goals from Oisín and 1-1 by Luke close the gap to four points (3-12 to 4-5) by the final whistle.

Team and scorers: Scarlett Herron; Dáire Conlon, Patrick Duffy; Michael McMorrow, Senan Cudden; Eoin O’Hanlon (0-1), Luke McManus (1-3); Josh Kelly, Seán Callan (1-0); Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Shea Swift.

Subs used: Oisín Reilly (2-1), Jordan Crampton, Max Mallen, Ross Finnegan.

The Monaghan team finished on a high with a 4-7 to 3-5 win over Kildare and Leinster champions Clane/Rathcoffey on Sunday. This time, the team performed for the full 40 minutes and ran out deserving winners, with the goals coming from Luke, Fionán Ó Gallchóir and Dáire Conlon.

Team and scorers: Scarlett Herron; Patrick Duffy, Seán Callan; Josh Kelly, Senan Cudden; Eoin O’ Hanlon (0-1), Michael McMorrow; Shea Swift (0-2), Fionán Ó Gallchóir (1-0); Oisín Reilly (0-2), Dáire Conlon (1-0).

Subs used: Luke McManus (2-4), Max Mallen, Ross Finnegan, Jordan Crampton.

There was very little between the four teams over the weekend, with Monaghan Town ending up third in the standings and earning bronze medals to go with their county and Ulster titles. Great credit is due to all the players and their management of Martin Sheridan, Finbarr Conlon, Mel McMorrow and Mary White. Well done also to Daragh Croarkin, who represented Monaghan in the long puck competition.

Summer Camp: Our first Harps Fun Summer Camp took place at Gavan Duffy Park last week, with over 70 boys and girls enjoying football, hurling, handball, traditional music and dance. The camp was excellently organised by coordinator Shane Smyth and we are also indebted to all the coaches, who did a great job throughout the week. All participants received a goody bag on Friday, when the coaches also took part in the ‘ice bucket challenge’ in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Text MND to 50300 to donate to this worthy cause. Thanks to everyone involved!

Seniors: Our senior footballers take on Truagh in Round 2B of the championship this Saturday at 4.45pm in Scotstown. Please support! A late goal for Clontibret proved decisive in last Wednesday’s away league game, which the hosts won by 1-12 to 1-9.

U-12: Our Under-12 Division 1A team are in the Coyle Cup Final against Emyvale this Saturday at 2pm in Castleblayney. Good luck to all involved and please support!

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers host Donaghmoyne in the championship semi-finals this Thursday at 6.45pm. The lads will also have home advantage in their league semi-final against Truagh next Thursday.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team play Truagh this evening (Tuesday). The Division Five Final against Carrickmacross is scheduled for Saturday week (September 6).

Gavan Duffy Park: We host the MFL Division Two Final between Clontibret and Truagh this Sunday at 12 noon. All help appreciated. Thanks to everyone who helped at the RFL Division 1A Final last week. Club members are asked to take due care of the pitch and ensure that is kept in the best possible condition.
