Forde Cup 2022 saw 4 teams brave the freezing temperatures to warm up a very cold evening with great skills and delight on the faces of the kids to be back playing some football. There were some fine skills on show to highlight the future stars in black and white. After a gripping final, Daniel Bouge collected the trophy for the winning blue team. The u7 player of the tournament was Oscar mc Kenna, the u9 star award recipient was Daithi Nesbitt and Luke Bouge collected the award for U11 player of the tournament. A huge word of thanks to Declan Forde for making the presentations and his presence on the evening, to Peadar mc Mahon who also braved the elements to take photos and to all who helped out and organise. Finally, thanks to the Mammies for management duty, (ps Mammies, please read in Coaching section about the new initiative to train female coaches, you have proved your ruthless steaks!!) and well done to all the kids who took part.

Coaching: If anyone has interest in coaching, mentoring or first aid for any juvenile teams next season please contact our Club Coaching Officer Brendan Mc Nally or Juvenile Chairperson Shane Mc Cormack.

Monaghan G.A.A are running a number of coaching courses during the off season. These are very valuable to anyone looking to step onto the coaching ladder and also to any coaches looking to improve and gain an extra coaching level. Again, Contact Brendan Mc Nally or Shane Mc Cormack for details. New coaches are welcome.

The three Gaelic Games Associations have launched a major new initiative aimed at supporting the development and pathway for female coaches across football,

Ladies football, hurling and camogie. The Camogie Association, LGFA and GAA have collaborated to secure the support of the Sport Ireland Women in Sport Fund and will run the programme throughout 2023. The aim of the programme is to increase the participation of female coaches in the upper end of the Gaelic Games Player Pathway in all four codes and will see participants experience an intensive coach development programme that will support them to achieve their coaching ambitions. Expressions of interest are being sought from interested candidates during the month of December. In January there will be an online information session to provide interested participants with more detail about the specific content and key dates of the programme. There will be approximately 25 places on the programme for 2023. Contact committee members of either Emyvale GAA or Emyvale LGFC for more information.

Referee’s: We are actively looking new referees for the club. Would you like to test yourself out to see would you enjoy what’s a very rewarding and important role in Gaelic games? Why not give it a go and see? All training and support will be provided and we are lucky to have one of Ulsters best referees in our club to help out along the way. Contact any committee member or our Club referee Niall ‘Mo’ McKenna for more details.

Crocus MOvember Challenge: Well done to the men who shaved their beards and mustaches on Saturday night in the Scarna Inn to help raise much needed funds and awareness for Crocus Men’s Den. Donations are still accepted.

Well Done to the St. Macartans College Rannafast team, and in particular the lads from our Club who are playing and connected to the squad, on winning their recent semifinal in terrible conditions to qualify for the Colleges second Rannafast Final in successive years. Good luck in the final lads!

Volunteer of the Year Recognition Award: Congratulations to Shane Mc Cormack, this year’s recipient for the prestigious Volunteer of the Year Recognition Award.

A most worthy award for one of the hardest working people in our club and the wider G.A.A circles. Shane will receive his award at a special awards ceremony on Thursday 15th in the Four Seasons. You never know, we might even be lucky enough to get a rendition of a song from him later that night too!! Congratulations Shane!
