Clontibret Notes

Volunteer Awards & All Stars Night

A big turnout in the Four Seasons Hotel last Thursday night where Peadar Hughes, our nominee for Volunteer of the Year, was among those honoured, while Conor McManus was also honoured at No. 15 on the Monaghan Senior All Star team for 2022, picking up his third similar award in the six year history of the scheme. Well done Peadar and Conor. Peadar’s citation on the night was as follows:

“Peadar Hughes has a long history of service to Clontibret O’Neill’s, both as player and administrator, going back over half a century. In his playing days he was a stalwart defender on Clontibret teams that didn’t always have the success of those of the previous era or what was to come in more recent decades. But it is a measure of the man that he flew the flag for the club in those less glamorous days. For more than twenty years now Peadar has served on the club executive in a variety of roles from Juvenile Secretary to Assistant Secretary and Injury Claims Officer where his calm demeanour and attention to detail ensures that claims are dealt with efficiently and promptly. Peadar never shirks from any task and eagerly took to the role of Twitterman for a number of years while always being available to act as steward during match days. In addition Peadar is blessed with a fine baritone voice and is often called upon for his powerful rendition of Amhran na bhFiann on match days while that same voice can be heard giving a rousing “Hillhead Roar” when the occasion demands. Well done, Peadar, a well-deserved Clontibret nominee for the Volunteer Recognition Award 2022.”
