Ulster Club Intermediate Semi-Final:
Corduff Gaels march on!
Crossmaglen was the venue for last Sunday’s Ulster Intermediate Club Championship Semi-Final between Corduff and Castlerahan, the Cavan champions. Played in ideal conditions in front of a large crowd, in particular a large Corduff contingent it was Corduff that edged it by a point to record a brilliant win securing a spot in the final.
Castlerahan stated their intent with a goal in the first minute which they added to with a point directly afterwards piling the pressure on Corduff. Corduff eventually got on the scoreboard with a point from Keith in the 8th minute to settle the nerves. Feargal, Keith again and John slotted over points to level matters heading for halftime. 14 man Castlerahan did register another point before the interval going in one point up 0-04 to 1-2 .
Early in the second half Corduff were also reduced to 14 players with John getting a red. From here on both sides added to their tally with Feargal and Gavin on target for Corduff levelling matters on a score of 0-7 to 1-04. In the 27th minute Castlerahan went ahead by a single point and the clock was ticking down as Dee levelled matters again in the last minute of normal time. The score was 0-8 to 1-05 as play entered 4 minutes of additional time. And indeed it was in the 3rd minute of additional time when Cillian tapped over that very important point which sealed the deal for Corduff as the final whistle echoed around the grounds signalling time up and Corduff as winners! Despite an announcement not to enter the field of play after the game there was no way the Corduff supporters would be stopped as they piled onto the pitch to congratulate their heroes knowing that the Ulster Final was the next fixture. Congratulations to the team, manager Seamus and his backroom team. Massive thanks to all the loyal supporters who never miss a game. See you all at the final.
